How can it be done? I heard Cobras can be done by removing or adding a diode. Is it the same with Uniden? 9 is useless nowdays but 19 still is so would like to have that on instant instead. I've sent 3 radios off now and keep forgetting to tell the tech, Lol.

Hell, One I just got, the metal face plate is already starting to peel and the top cover wasn't made right. So you have to really push it on one side towards the face for the screw holes to line up. And it needs case screws already. Barely any pressure and the heads try to strip out..... Who was it that said uniden was better than cobra now? I think not. And this one wasn't even made in china....

Got me. I'd have to go pull the cover off and look. No where near it right now. Will be tonight. Just whatever is in a 68 and 78 though. Let me see if I can find some info on it.
(I wasn't the first) I've said that, and I stand by my statement: The older (Uniden made) Cobra radios are better than the post 2000's China made ones, I usually find the Older Uniden radios to be a little more durable. (not by a whole lot, but a little bit more)
Sounds like you bought yours used, maybe it hasn't seen the most careful use in its life?

It's probably best to examine the channel synthesis scheme, and deduce how to pull it off, depending on the specific radio at hand. I think it is a useful modification as well.
These made in Vietnam actually. And no, They're new still in box and everything. The other one doesn't have theses issues and the third I haven't looked at yet. Seems to be just this one. Even though, The other one for momma bear is only 3 digits higher in serial. The case cover is just where it was bent a little to short and isn't conforming to the chassis. The faceplate aluminum is seperating where the glue is evidently failing. And my god is the aluminum easily scratched... Everyone keeps saying the 68 and 25 are identical, and the 29 and 78 are, So why wouldn't it work? I can't find a schematic of either the 68 OR 78 online for some reason. If I could, I'd be looking right now on how to do this.
I do need to find a new cover and 8 new screws but I'm not about to pay $30 for a set of covers just because they "look cool". Seems no one carries stock covers really.
68Elite and 78LTW. I won't own a SMT radio if I can help it. And I think these are the last ones made with through hole components. Also would like to do this to a 78Elite which i think is the same as the LTW just backlit face.
