Is CB radio suffering from the loudness wars?

Since this is a Christmas fourm I'm going to assume you're operating SDR on 11 meters.
Would you mind sharing your setup. I'm very curious. Thanks 73

Sharing my setup? I run a SDR with a RE27 mic and a zero five colossal antenna that has been discussed during my install... I also have a little 2 pill base amp that I use when shooting skip.. But for local talking with my group I just use the radio.. I strive to have a clean audio station.. :)

73's brother..

Speech-to-text fail up. This is obviously not a Christmas form. What my speech-to-text should have written was CB radio forum. Thanks for answering most of my questions.
Since the 05 works on 10 meters I'll assume it'll do so on 11.
Do you operate on 11 with the setup you've mentioned?. Thanks. 73

No problem.. I do not know what you mean by "since 05 works on 10 meters"?? Whats that? I should have been more specific, I have a Asymod standalone box into a cobra 148 gtl with the RE27 microphone... I do not own a flex radio or anything like that, besides the flex radios are have the firmware set where you cannot use them on 11 meters anyway.. I have heard people discuss the older flex 1500 radios that were not firmware blocked, but I have no idea if this is true or not.. But this is my SDR setup, I still call it a SDR radio though.. Sorry if it was a bit confusing... Here is a link to the asymod standalone:

I wasn't that familiar with the 05. From what I've heard about it I wasn't sure if it was a multi band antenna. 10-80 or -160. I assumed you were a ham operator. I did think you were on a flax 1500 or the like. I have read that the early Flex SDR transceiver was indeed able to be Mars modify.
The referencing of SDR threw me. I rarely hear operators referencing any 11 Meter setups as SDR.
I got you're saying and I don't want you to think I'm splitting hairs. If it's SDR it is what it is no matter where it's operating. Thanks for clarifying. 73

I asked you what you meant by 05? I have no idea what you are talking about, thats why I asked.. Anyway, yeah I have heard of people operating the flex 1500's, they said it did not have the firmware blocking it from 11 meters, or it could be hacked.. I honestly have no idea.. Nah no sweat, I do not think you are splitting hairs, its all good..

Zero five colossal. I guess I should have referred to it as it's proper given company name which I guess is the zero five and not 05. We're straight now.

No problem brother.. I have a zerofive 5kw colossal antenna.. He also makes a 10kw colossal.. They are excellent antennas as I have said in a few other threads.. So glad I decided to put this up then the imax 2000 I was going to install.. Not that the Imax is bad, but this is just a much better antenna.. Anyway glad there is no more confusion between the both of us.. (y)

One of my friends has the pr40 and its a great mic no doubt, a little bassier then the RE27. My other friend in our chat group has the RE27, after hearing both on the air I liked the RE27 better.. And they were both talking on the same radio.. Both are great mics though.. (y)

I'm one of those that truly believes one gets what they pay for.
With that being said I'm surprised at the postings I've read about zero five colossal.
Not to many people impressed with it. Especially concidering it price.
I guess if one's going to run 5 or 10k a macco 5/8 wave or IMAX 2000 isn't going to cut it.
I know the IMAX is toast if that type of power is applied to it.
I don't know the handling capabilities of the macco but I doubt 5k.
Did you go from one antenna brand (model) to the five zero and if so what were your results as far as recive and transmitt differences between the two antennas?
Any particular reason for going with the re27? I was back and forth between the pr40, re27 and re20. I ended up with the pr40. I was using an akg 220 before but it picked up every noise in the house.
Thought I'd throw in my 2 cent.
I've never heard an re27 or 20 but have heard many pr models. Especially the 40. And, once the operator has their station dialed in those pr40's sound sweet.
Actually all the Heil model Microphones I've hear sound very nice.
I'm not sure if their worth the price as I've heard a few of those Adonis and Shure SM (90) series mics that sounded wonderful. At less than 1/3 the price of the expensive Heil Microphones has me thinking are the priced Heil's worth it?
I do understand there are many variables in which to consider when purchasing a high-end studio type microphone.
Of course the equipment you're plugging it into probably accounts for the way you're probably going to sound on the other end.
But voice characteristics etc etc Imo definitely account as to which microphone is going to sound good on a particular radio with the voice that's talking into it.
There is a local in my area who operates a ts-570 with the cheapest Heil and one of those CB-(11?) PTT mic stands and, it sounds excellent.
I purchased one of those sm-90's when I delved into my mid fi experimentation.
I probably need not tell you what a disaster that was.
I guess the only thing good to come out of it was the sm-90 microphone and the $75 Behringer 3 band EQ. After using those two pieces of equipment in combination with my Uniden Madison it only took me two days to realize it really wasn't worth the effort or the money.
When I finally decide to hook up my ft-950 I have nothing to lose by giving that sm-90 a try. What the hell It's already paid for. 73

I totally agree with you sonar, you definetly get what you pay for..

The zerofive colossal has bad reviews? I have read all good reviews of it and it is hands down better then an imax 2000.. I was going to put up an imax but did some research on the zerofive and I am so glad I did in all honesty.. RX and TX is amazing, and it has been in the wind when storms rolled through, its tough as well.. I once had a fiberlgass antron 99 back in the day, had it on my chimney and it was great, but after a number of years the fiberglass becomes brittle etc, etc.. I like the aluminum antennas, not that the imax is bad, its a great antenna , but its not in the same class as the colossal..

Believe it or not I still have the IMAX 2000 w/GPK still new in the box.. I also have a brand new MAci 103c brand new in the box.. I was actually going to put up the beam in the first place, but I decided that my pipe system for the beam and rotor was not going to work, so then I bought the IMAX 2000, but after reading about the colossal and talking with a few friends of mine, they said to go with the zerofive.. I also read a test someone did with the imax 2000 vs a zerofive, not sure where I read it but the zerofive was better by 2 s units both RX and TX.. I am so glad I went with the colossal, it really is a great antenna.
