HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Not allow to private home i do not own
Do you have a backyard. And if so would your landlord allow you to put a clothesline up? There's even a way to hang a wire dipole up inside the house. You'd be surprised, when conditions are right how good they'll work. Of course you're not going to get out or receive like someone whos got a 1/4 wave outside at the proper height, but it's better than nothing.
Do a search right here on wwdx with the words STEALTHY ANTENNA. You might find something that'll get you on the air.
When I first got on the air about 4 years ago I asked weather an IMAX 2000 at ten feet off the ground would work. Some said no. Others said yes. and others said there's only one way to find out. And that was to put it up. It's been up for approximately 3 1/2 years now. At 8 ft off the ground from the feed point. AndIt works very well. 73's

Yes. The cycle was in big swing. I wasn't around when the one before the last one, but I heard it was better than the last one. That must have been incredible. During this last one I worked about every continent, and held qso's with people all over the world. If anyone knows 306 Jon from Armagh Ireland and keeps in touch with him via email please tell him Jojo sends regards. I unfortunately lost his email address. John and his Cobra 2000 and beam on a 45c tower sounded terrific and would come in 59 consistently. One of the many European stations I became acquainted with and actually exchanged email addresses. I didn't have everything backed up when my Galaxy S9 Edge took a dump. I lost all my email addresses and all of the operators that exchanged email addresses with me were lost along with the rest of the information on that phone. Back to the subject. Yes it was a great time for me. I had returned to the airwaves after a 27 yes hiatus. Back then I didn't do any dxing. My local channel was 15 am in Brooklyn New York, and nobody on that channel was interested in dxing. Most people on that channel didn't even own a side band radio. 4 out of 10 people were using transmitters. Mostly EF Johnson equipment and the other six were using tube radios and amplifiers of all sorts. Browning's, sonar's, and tram's. Lots of d&A's. Mostly phantims, and there was tommy mellow yellow with his Cobra AM only rig with a d104 and a d&a warrior. Mellow yellow splashed all 39 other channels with his signature lV on top of a four story apartment building. He lived on shore parkway. Which was on the narrows of Verrazano. He crushed people in Staten Island and New Jersey equally with no remorse. Then you had the other end of the spectrum. Artie Windjammer with his EF Johnson Viking 500. The most terrific sounding transmitter I've ever heard on AM. There was Scotty over in Coney Island with his Valiant who also sounded choice. I digress. I got a bit Lost in Time there for a second. I don't get on the air often but when I do I could usually get my DX Jones fix. Almost Every time I turn on the station within the last month there is always some DX coming in. Whether it was from the Carolinas or the Midwest. Some centraland south America staying 55 fifa few hours. Plenty of time to enjoy some dxing. it's still out there. If I recall it's mostly after 6 p.m. up until maybe 10. so if you enjoy dxing weather on am or SSB there's definitely conditions. you just have to be patient. It's going to be that way for a while so I guess you have to enjoy what you got. 73 s

Speaking of reminiscing. Being located in the Midwest has its advantages and disadvantages. You probably had a little easier time getting over the "big pond" into Europe than I did. However I will never forget working world wide 11-10 meters from the mobile. It's fun from home but I always liked pulling it off from the car. My job is located about 10 miles east of my qth. Many mornings where spent working a multitude of different European countries on my way into work. I recall working Russia on 25 watts. Evenings were just as fun working Australia, New Zealand and other south pacific areas on my way home. Even got Japan once! Sometimes I wished my commute had been longer! All this was done with a 2950dx, 2 pill and a 1/4 wave whip. Nothing fancy but it worked great for me. Once the cycle started to loose steam I needed my DX fix so I upgraded to general and eventually extra. Now I can still DX... prices have gone up.. unfortunately lol but the opportunities for enjoying the hobby have gone up as well!! That's my .02....73

I usually take notice of the action on 40 meters while looking at the VOOACAP propagation map. I've noticed that no matter how the 10 meter band (which I use for 11 meter DX refrance) is showing little to no conditions the 40 meter band is Colored red denoting that the band is wide open and dx conditions are optimal. Is this matching up with the maps forcast? If so can you (or someone) exsplain why dxing is still open on that band as opposed to 11, 10 and othrr higher frequency bands?
I always assumed that if conditions in the atmospher werent strong shooting skip wasn't possible.
But according to the VOOACAPP map shooting skip is possible. At least on 40. I also believe the map shows good conditions on 60 and 80.. Congratulations on getting your general class license. 73's

I'm not familiar with the Voacap map but I can tell you the higher bands 17-10 have been pretty dead lately. Every once in a while in the evenings you get some stateside sporatic E on 10. Heard some Aussies on .385 couple months back but definitely not the norm. The sun spot cycle at its minimum has hurt everything really. 20 is a daytime band and has been so so for Europe, Africa and occasionally Asia lately. 40 is usually always open somewhere stateside and sometimes abroad. Can't speak much for 80. Made a few evening contacts stateside lots of QRN & (lots of rag chewers).. 160...? Don't have a wire up for that YET. I will say this. Last weekend was the arrl ssb contest and I had a lot of fun on 15. 20-30 over 9 signals out of the Caribbean and south Amer. 20 was busy as well... picked up a few new european entities that i can confirm. The days of working the EU with 20 watts on 10/11 from the mobile are long gone...for a few years
