The unamplified d104 I use with my Sonar 2340 needs to have it's 1/4" phone plug resoldered.
The mic sounds great (according to reports) but I occasionally have to move the solid non spring like cord in order to get full audio. Loose wire no doubt. Only 3 wirer. 1 key, 1 audio, and 1 ground.
I decided to use my backup until I had it resoldered. It's the same high z unamplified (g?) d104.
I immediately got reports of horrible audio. I removed the head from the one I know that sounds good and switched it with the backup mic that apparently sounds nasty. Same reports. Nasty! So it's obviously the the microphone itself and not the head (cartridge.) Resoldering the the one quarter inch plug on the excellent sounding one won't be a problem. My question is what can be done to the the backup mic that sounds horrible? Why would it sound this way? Does it like most of this vintage equipment need to be recapped and or have resistors replaced?
Thanks ps I thought I might buy another (for backup use.) I was shocked at the biding prices. One was going for $52 (not including shipping) on a nice looking tested and sounds good description one with a day left in biding. I'm guessing having the backup one that sounds horrible restored would probably be worth it.
