Why you need a low pass filter when using a splatter box amplifier

Just because somebody critiques one of Mike's videos doesn't necessarily mean that they don't like him. I think most if not all of his customers would agree that Mike is an excellent tech.
To be honest I am impressed that he would have a Spectrum Analyzer to start with.
He just needs to refine his test procedures a little bit. When testing for radiated emissions all covers must be installed, station grounds in place and the radio up at full power for the harmonic base line measurements. The KL-203 has nothing but plastic to enclose the circuits. Front, back, and bottom are all plastic.

I'm sure he will see it eventually. CB techs have a group of followers that want to believe what makes them feel good about the money they've spent. What I have to say has no value to them.
I think that statement is true of most people in general which is why I can not stand most people. You see it in 4x4 forums, trumpet forums, gun forums etc.....It is even worse if it is a forum for one brand like "Glock is Messiah of Hand Guns Forum" or the like! You get all these folks that can not handle the truth unless it is positive and supportive of what ever beliefs they hold! They do not seek knowledge, truth, wisdom or anything like that! They want to group hug and parrot the same 1/2 truths and misinformation around and look like they know what they are talking about. Car sights are the worst. You still have ignorant nit wits telling people that ATF has more "detergents" in it and that you can clean sludge out of your engine with it and cure a ticking lifter with it. ATF has fewer additives and lesser amount of them by volume than your cheapest API rated oil. The base stock that ATF is made from is also junk if you plan on putting it in anything that has combustion taking place and blow by. Lastly ATF and GEAR Lubes are based on acid chemistry and motor oils are based around base chemistry. ATF and Gear Lube we test TAN or Total Acid Number and motor oil we test TBN or Total Base Number. Yet youtube and car sights are full of ignorant parrots spreading absolutely false ignorant information that a 5th grader could look up on any oil blenders MSDS sheets, shooting an email off to Tech Support or paying for a $20 Virgin Oil Analysis or Used Oil Analysis of said products! Pick any topic you like if it has a forum for it then the above is true. Look at all the people that come her asking a question that had they googled it the first 3-5 suggestions contain the answer they want word for word with diagrams and often step by step instructions!

Wow! Just when thought that I was the town's gold medal sidetracked winner. Competition has been tough this year. I may have to settle for the bronze.

To be totally frank the radio is in need of transmitter alignment. To get that level of harmonics at two watts output, some one had to be spreading the coils and twisting pots. I would not let that radio leave my bench with out getting those harmonics down to factory specs.
This must be "The Magical Watts Tune up" that some one paid good money for.

In all honesty, just get a better radio. you can get a Yaseu FT-450D for example which is going to have better transmit and already comes with enough punch to get your signal out. so for close to the price of that radio and amp you can get a nice all in one package.

And on the positive side, if you get your ticket you now have a radio ready to go on 20 meters etc..

Mike still hasn't approved my helpful comment. I guess he's hoping that nobody else will notice. I just noticed another crazy thing-that his carrier has steps in it, instead of being a nice smooth taper. I'm not sure if anybody else noticed.

Poor RM Italy amp being blamed for crimes it did not commit :)
Now that said, some of the broadband versions you do want a lowpass filter ie the 27/586 if you plan on using a KL-506 vs the KL-503

I'd filter anything with the name "RM" on it, (or anything unfiltered) but yeah as much as I hate to agree... the 203 got a bad rap in Mike's video, IMHO.

A filter is a good idea with any amp, as total output increases unwanted signals that are quite a few db down can get big enough to cause problems.
