I am not sure how many times I need to say this but since I have 3 boys I am guessing about a Million Times! If you want plenty of bandwidth and good am audio the best bang for your buck from Ranger is the RCI2950 PERIOD! All other nonsense is just talking out ones rear end. Is it perfect no! Is it better than anything else Ranger makes? Yes! The best part is should you get tired of scraping the bottom on AM you can hope up to SSB where the grownup's talk! It has a user interface so simple a monkey can operate it. None of that menu driven nonsense. You can almost buy 2 of them for the price of a Stryker 955.

A radio with AM only is like a car with 3 wheels! Ask the British(Jermy Clarkson) about the Reliant Robin!!! LOL...Sure you can do it and manage but why cut your throat to spite you stomach! It is very narrow sighted and it limits you options down the road. The second you decide you want SSB that radio just became a boat anchor. I could understand if they were giving them away cheaply but that is not the case. WIthout a cooperative solar cycle, you can hardly outtalk your own shadow.

All joking aside though seriously for the money they are a ripoff. They charge WAY too much for what you get.

I have been on the radio since 1972 and never used SSB until about 1997. I have AM only radios and about all they are good for to me now is if I am just on the road and want to monitor traffic conditions. now to me SSB is the only way to go if you want to talk to decent people other than a truck driver over the road. no complaints about truck drivers but they are only interested in going from point A to point B most of the time.

High power without an external amp and the size of a Cobra 29, looks like it's intended for use in company trucks were there are restrictions in place on what the drivers can install.
