Uniden Washington no modulation

Since this is your first post we don't have any clue what you know or don't know so here we Go!

And? What equipment do you have to test with?
Does it have receive and does it have good audio on receive?
Does it transmit a strong signal via a watt meter?
Can you see the signal on the same channel on another radio? Maybe a friends radio?
And if you can can you hear anything at all with the volume turned way up on the friend's radio?

OldTech03

Has transmit on all bands and power on my dosey reads 5 watts on am has no modulation at all I tried several mics.it is a 1983 uniden Washington.

Spec , Welcome to the forum ! But as Otech asked more info please . I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction , just not enough to go on .

I have Multimeter, dosywatt meter, frequency counter and a 100 mhz scope. Signal I can see as I have a nother radio for testing,

You say no modulation.

Do you hear any receive? Hear any stations - did you try to see if you can talk to someone over the air on that radio - can you hear them - do you have squelch control - did you try PA controls - does the radio RX and TX lights switch in proper modes - Have you tried a different mike - is the mike wired properly - does the S/RF meter work - do you have SWR and Calibrate do they work - did you check for RF on an external RF meter - does the channel selector work - what type of equipment can you use to check the radio - did you try an external speaker - did you try the external speaker using the PA jack when you are in PA mode - do you hear any noise thru the external speaker - does the radio "light up" and you can see the radio has power and you can turn the channel knob - did you check the RF gain control to see or hear any changes in receive or noise level - do you know what you're doing?

Can you tell us more than just "No Modulation"

Ok radio powers on I hear receive good as I have tested in other radio I have, tx power works but no modulation at all on all bands

OK!

That's a start...

You get receive, but PA and CB does not work - so I can presume you have PLL working and the radio seems to hear other stations ok.

That radio has SSB - can you hear yourself into your other radio - while you TX in SSB mode?

The radio also has a Mic Gain control - key up the radio and turn that knob - listen for static or - if the mic gain works, you'll hear a feedback squeal from the speaker of the other radio and it's feeding back into the mic.

Do you have a spare mic for that radio? Try it too.

You may need to get a service manual or do a search here for Cobra 142 and or Uniden Washington in the search box on the up[per right corner of this forum once you're signed in.

AH! Sounds like another radio we were just hearing about...

So If I have you correctly, you hear SSB and can Transmit on SSB modes...

Correct?

Ahemn...

Ok, since you don't have speaker for PA, you'll need to review the wiring in the radio - so again search for Cobra 142 or Uniden Washington - there are several threads dealing with these radios.

The myriad of problems you face may all be related to someones' botched up Talkback onto something more exotic like a bad rewire, onto blown parts and maybe even a burnt trace.
