OK folks, I got this off of the bay because I have never seen or heard of one! Only thing wrong was meter light was out. Replaced that with a 5mm warm white LED. looks just like an incandescent now! Cool beans. Then I did a full recap just cuz I do not know the history of its use... hot/cold temp changes... blah blah. She works perfectly!

Now, there is a green sticker on the bottom near speaker holes. It reads:

Kenworth Truck Company
PPC00448
ENGR. CHNG. LEVEL =B
12412AA 794060

No idea if that is related???

Anybody have any ideas on this unit?

Very possible! The main board is a bit different layout than other gens. But still the same concepts. It does have 3 vertical boards that solder to the main PCB. VCO, IF-MOD and OP AMP.

The PLL is under some header pin wires and when I replaced 2 caps next to it I completely forgot to look at what's in it! DOH!

Sure is different and fun to work with. RF deadkey is 5 with a swing to 12 at about 98% modulation. Stock driver and 2078 final sound great!

The FCC ID number on the back relates to a radio that Midland applied for. Another search brought up somebody on E-bay that was selling one a number of years ago. E-bay long since deleted that auction, but some leftover residual text from the seller stated it had 100 channels. I’m thinking it’s possibly a radio that was easily modified for extra channels. Maybe the FCC made them quit sales in this country a short time later. That’s just my guess, but that would explain the rarity. Yes, the PLL and board number would provide more clues. BTW... Warm white LED's are also my main choice nowadays. I'm sooo pleased they're readily available now.

OK, the PLL is a LC7132 and as far as I can tell the main board number is 4A1033 Rev. 5.

Yeah sunbulls, I have some pre-wired LEDs that I removed the 500 ohm dropping resistor and soldered a larger 1/2 watt directly to the main PCB. They always put that dropper right behind the LED body.... Makes it a bit hard to position in the meter because they are front firing LEDs. Also I increased the resistance to drop the brightness down some more.

Now, the dim function switch does not dim down the meter light. Which it did not with the incandescent either cuz I tested with a ican. first to see the brightness in the meter and measured the voltage at the same time.... no change. But no problem!
