Deciding between these two as a base radio. (Backing up my old Ranger 296DX)

I like the look of the new 69VHP and it has SSB.. but it runs a 3rd gen 6900 type board.

The 2970 has the normal board with 8 transistor kicker under it..

The 69 needs some soldering to open up the bands. The 2970N2 is eChip.

I can get the 69VHP for like $370 shipped the 2970N2 is $428 shipped.

I like the idea of having 200w or so for SSB and I can skip running my TS350.

I wish someone would test the new 69VHP thoroughly and run a video of it's specs and if it holds frequency.

Lester said it has a slightly different board number on it then the 6900 board..

I don't plan on tweaking the 2970N2 to max modulation. Just plugging in the eChip.. if I run the 69VHP I'd probably have to fiddle with the power knob to make happy with the TS350 and adjust the internals to lower lows..

Had the 2950CD. Just sold it to do an upgrade. Also considering selling the TS350 all together.
Well you should have kept it with the 350 because it's the better way to go.
There is just too much heat in the radios with the amps built in. And the mosfets used in the N2 are known to fail...A LOT.

Doing well. Got FT job in one week flat. Started at $12.75/hr at Wallyworld up here.

If I did decide to get rid of the TS350V I figure $200 or so flat pending on shipping.. be fair I think.

Lester's suggested getting the 2970N4 and be done with it.. he said pretty stable and less chance of having mosfet issues as they are regular type (like my TS350) transistors. Of course the $670 price tag is rough.

Had several contacts last week on my Ranger 296DX with TS350 running and also got 409 down in PA..

Maybe I can run my Ranger 296DX with my unused RM203. The 296 was setup with 1w dk on AM and 10w max swing and on SSB is set to get to only 17w by DTB a few weeks back.

Then I can sell the 350 and get the 2970N4 monster with all the funds pulled.

If you decide to let the 350 go i will take it. I here 409 quite often but i just cant seen to make the trip

To go back to the original question, conversed awhile on Saturday with a man said (I’m pretty sure) the Ranger 69. In a KW-900 with super-long custom sleeper. Allied Van Lines.

Wilson 2000 antennas on RG8x Coax. Clean power. He was about as knowledgeable as anyone met on the road.

One of the best sounding mobile radios I’ve heard. We backed off his mike gain a tad and it was Radio Announcer time. Grandson messing with it.

He was about two miles distant. Both of us waiting in lines for service.

Caused me to look it up at a 30” minute break on the WV Turnpike.

If he was running both antennas on that coax there is no way he had a good match. You need to run 75 ohm coax with two antennas to get the match correct.

Was it single or double? I don’t know for a certainty. As with writing a post, sometimes tone of voice is misconstrued. I tried basic questions and relied on his familiarity. There were quite a few others talking.

I DO know what was at my end.
