Doing a little Ebay browsing and came across a galaxy 33 hp2 with what's called an asymod iii. I'm guessing it's a direct injection hifi board? Snake oil? Never heard of it so just needing a little educational 101. Is it similar to a speech processor?

I've used the older ones that required multiple power supplies. They work as advertised.

It bypasses the modulation circuit in your radio and gives you a wide band transmitter. Being able to fine tune the modulation percentage makes it easier to dial in than the direct inject method.

Don't get crazy with the modulation. 100 to 150% positive peaks are all you need. If you go higher you'll start to sound distorted on most receivers.

You also have to run low power out of the radio. You need a lot of headroom to have good audio. With a cobra 29 you're maxed out at 2 watts carrier and maybe 10 to12 pep.

This was the last one I used. It was in a uniden 78ltd. The bnc on the back is the IF tap. I used an sdrplay for a receiver.

Interesting, I'd heard them mentioned before but never really got my curiosity until seeing the one the other day. Maybe old news to most but new to me. Not sure if it's really necessary for my doings but interesting nonetheless. I'd like to hear one on the air just for giggles

Just remember that what it sounds like is determined by the audio source and how its adjusted. The board just gives you a blank canvas to work with.

If you find the mmm videogates on youtube listen to his early videos. He started using heavy audio processing later on. Some people like it and some think he sounds like optimus prime.

All of Asymods boards are off MMM's old board. Jose stuffs a cheap Chinese buck converter on top of the board to run off of single radio supply. Jose's knock off works but I've seen his converter board fail often. I've had both MMM's boards and an Asymod. Jose adds a few more parts to dress up his units but they work the same. MMM's buddy Dave designed the circuit , the schematics been floating around. A few parts on the schematic are incorrect but the thing as a whole gets you the idea. To each his own, I like the new MMM board better. NPC and some mods to the darlington gets you close.

I watched a youtube video of the Asymod III that was producing 300 percent modulation, I didnt like the audio quality at all, plus the guy was showing the o-scope view of the whole thing, and to me, the scope view looked really, really bad.
