Hello everyone, just picked up a Bird 43 and I'm looking to get a peak reading kit, need some information on recommendation on a kit. Thanks.

I use the K4DPK PEP kit.Very inexpensive & it works like a charm. Here is his ad from QTH.com so you can look him up. He builds great stuff.
RADIOHF - Wattmeter conversion to Real PEP output
The Universal PEP circuit board makes about any wattmeter read PEAK ENVELOPE POWER. Works in Bird, Drake, Daiwa, Heathkit, Collins, Swan, Coaxial Dynamics and most others, even in tuners. Quick and easy to install. Meter rises immediately to your Peak Power, and you can adjust the meter "Hang Time". Universal Model is $35 shipped US48 Wired and tested
*******
New Deluxe Model PEP Conversion for the W-4 and WH-7 wattmeters! Includes the PEP adapter mounted on an aluminum plate with switch and connector, wired and tested, shown in picture $55 shipped CONUS.
*****
VFO STABILIZER available for some radios. Does your VFO drift? E-mail for details.
******
Payment by: US Orders--Personal Check, PAYPAL or US Post Office Money Order. My address is good in QRZ.com or QTH.com. I pay the seller fees to PayPal.
Outside USA orders, please email for shipping cost and payment method.

So looking at those specs it looks like you are basically turning your Bird into a Dosy . AVG is where its at.

In a sense I suppose. You have to also consider the quality of the kit. I see more than one but its the 9v x 2 kit Bird is selling I believe. You can compare the scale at which the meter reads but you cant compare quality or the lack thereof in the Dosy. I know the 3 meter face Dosy's can be easily modified to read rms instead of peak. I bought one last year from Copper that wasnt soldered correctly and was reading rms instead of peak. I called George at QP Inc who is Dosy factory repair and he told me how to change that.
This was after I called Copper and was told they dont take returns on defective Dosy meters they sell. I was told to call Dosy. Well needless to say Copper got the Dosy back and refunded my money without anymore lip. Copper customer service has gone down hill.

I have the Watts Electronics kit, it was already installed in my meter when I got but I didnt have the instruction sheet for it on how to calibrate it. The kit works very well, and a quick email to the guy that makes them and I had the pdf. on how to set it up. I would recommend not using the plug to mount the switches and just drill the case. The switches are a bit of a tight fit. But thats just my personal preference. The kit is very wel made and very easy to calibrate. It looks like it is a pretty easy install as well, but like I said it was already installed. I would go for some sort of external power supply for it as I dont care much for using 9v batteries ( I always seem to have just used my last one when I need another lol ). All in all I would say great product and great customer support even though I wasnt the one that purchased the kit, I know some might say it was a simple thing for him to send me the sheet, but still he didnt have to since I wasnt the original purchaser of it. Stuff like that means alot to me when dealing with someone. Just my two cents, I give it a Ten out of Ten

Those 9 V batteries in my two Bird Wattmeters go down fast. Isn't there a kit to convert the 9 V to use a transformer similar as the DELTA M2 microphone has.
The BIRD 4410A has a battery test function, but the BIRD 43 with the factory installed PEP function does not have a battery test function. It doesn't take too long for the batteries to drain if and when I forget to turn-off the PEP mode. Two 9V batteries cost more than one gallon of gas.
