New Mckinley

The new McKinley should be here Friday. Is 12 gauge wire big enough to run to the battery?

Distance. Amperage drop. 3% guidelines are tight.

Yeah, probably on 12, but 10-ga would be better.

Do some measurements with scrap. Well away from all else in routing.

POWERWERX can do you up a custom harness. Fuses and all. Get some flame-resistant split loom (convolute) tubing (ANCOR).

Was your truck available with an optional second battery? I’d investigate that path also.

ANCOR MARINE GRADE WIRING has been my choice in automotive projects about 20-years. I especially like their adhesive-lined connectors. Meets USCG standards (soldering not allowed; vibration).

On their site is a BLUE SEA wire size calculator.

I’m setting up BLUE SEA (Eaton/Bussmann) Termination Fuses at the battery posts. Then will be a run of 20’ to a distribution panel. 6-AWG is the recommendation. (This is to run a 200W RM Italy 7505v amp plus either that Ft450d or a Galaxy 99; fused at 30A ).

At POWERWERX, using custom harness configurator, from 5/16 ANCOR mugs along 6-AWG ANCOR wire to ANDERSON POWERPOLE 75A connectors, I may go ahead and buy the complementary distribution panel as I’ve already set up radio gear with APP.

Just need some FLAME RESISTANT split loom convolute tubing to cover wires. A couple of grommets. And insulated ADEL CLAMPS in a few places to hold wiring.

Also, flame-resistant zip ties.

My work “may” need to pass inspection. The above gives me a somewhat better setup than the very heavy wiring being used for the big inverter installed on this truck. (Burning down a $185,000 tractor could lower my popularity credit score, ha!).

Once done it’s good for pretty much any tractor from hereon. Or my pickup.

Note that it’s well past $200 into the above. Consideration of consequences is how to drive your project.
