Looking on Craigslist to see what's up for grabs in CB and ham gear I came across an ad for a Northpoint CBS-1000 and a 24ft CB antenna. for $50 and it is amazingly only a mile away from me! it seems like everything I might be interested in on Craigslist is 100 miles away out in the boonies making it just not worth it to go get...Maybe that is a good thing!!:D
So I leave an email for the seller really expecting to never hear from him which is often the case it seems. Well, he called me a little later so I headed over there. I really was mostly interested in the antenna but for $50 you can't go too wrong. The radio works fine other than a couple burned out bulbs for the meters, no sweat with that!
The antenna is a Solarcon 5/8 wavelength antenna. It look like it had little time up in the air. The stickers are still on it and all the hardware is still shiny. A good deal for me as I don't have a regular CB vertical up and was watching for one second hand locally.
So...Happy Father's Day to me!! I hope youse guise have a good Father's Day weekend too!

The antenna is the Imax 2000. Not sure how I will put it up but I can get it about 10 ft off the ground temporarily tomorrow.

The radio has a few scratches on the top. Looks like some surgery to replace the meter lamps. I shorted the two pins but no joy on frequency expansion as I understand how to get it. I'll mess with it more tomorrow I guess.

Wow! Nice! I'll tell you something interesting about that radio. I had one around 20 years ago. Same exact radio, except it was called the Cherokee CBS-1000. The CBS stands for Cherokee Base Station. I think I paid 350.00 for it. It was a very nice radio. Wish I still had it. I'd like to learn about the name change. I guess Cherokee sold to another manufacturer. Good luck with it.

Took a look at the extended frequency thing today and all is well. Looks like i used a computer pin shorter that wasn't for shorting as much as protecting the pins. I used a different shorter and it is fine now.

I am not seeing where the lamps are for the two meters. They are easy to find for the display though. Looks like I need to disassemble the front panel to get to them which doesn't look like much fun!
