How in the wide world of sports is a ten cent panel overlay going to be an outer case?
Then there's the small matter of the rf shield. Just put a sticker on that I suppose.
Oh, and who needs meters anyway? Just tune for maximum smoke!
And, tubes are a dead technology, get a Dave Made and be done with it.

Today, just about any meter you need to replace is a simple task with the help of this software tool: http://www.tonnesoftware.com/meter.html The most common meters are 1ma movements and many different sizes are avaiable at a low cost on eBay. That software will rescale any meter very accurately and allows for some nice custom features or additional scales. Printing the scale on photo quality paper gives a real professional look too.

The lack of meter protection diodes is what destroyed most of those meters and made them so valuable. As you may know, the meter covers don't always fall off either. Sometimes when the shunt opens, they fly off with force! I've been hit with one in the face while reading the meter at the time of a tube arc. After replacing the tubes and meter, I learned about glitch resistors and diodes across shunt resistors. Things that would have been both useful and educational had they been included in the SB-220 kit.
We learned to put protection diodes across the meters in a SB220 before even plugging in in to check for the customer. Only had to buy one grid meter for a customer for that to become standard policy. Fortunately we learned that lesson back when you could still get the meter from Heathkit for about 15 bucks.
Just got my ship notice for the production batch of the adapter boards we use for the SB220 substitute meters.
The Tonne Software "Meter" program is what we use to print the scales. Just wish we could format a half-dozen or more on one sheet of paper at a time. It will print just one meter scale per sheet of paper.
Assuming I didn't screw up the circuit-board art for this one, we'll have more than just the handful of prototype replacement SB-220 meters to offer for sale.
