Cant get Wilson 1000 to tune on pick up cab..

use to never have any trouble. Now that the body is Aluminum Just don't seem to want to tune. It has to be in the 26MHz Range to even get close to 1.0 This is with my antenna analyzer.
tried both 62 in stinger and 66 in stinger.
Help Please!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I mean that. What you're experiencing isn't showing a problem, in fact its showing the opposite.

When you've a damned good RF ground you'll find that the antenna is resonant below the CB frequencies and usually by a lot. The better the RF ground the shorter the radiating element needs to be. Manufacturers design the lengths expecting them to be installed where there's a piss poor RF ground, such as using a magmount, so the whips are quite long as a result.

I've got a drilled in roof fixed mount, bonded everything. With a plain whip with no loading coil in the mount the feedpoint impedance at resonance is just a fraction of an ohm above that of 36.8 Ohms which is what the feedpoint of a 1/4 wave with a perfect ground would be. Stock CB antennas on my car are typically resonant just below 26MHz when shortened as much as possible. I usually end up having to get the dremel out and cut 2-3" off the whips. My Sirio 5000 I had to cut 3 inches off.

Aluminium is also has better surface conductivity than steel so that'll be benefitting too.

You've got an antenna analyser, you've found where its tuned to, now is the time to get out the snips and cut the whip down.

Here’s the excuse for the BREEDLOVE MACHINE puck mount (no, I don’t want to hear about the non-starter “vehicle value” thing, or how complicated it is to get to roof underside: pull overhead light fixture. Use fishtape to get Coax across the straight lines).

Another here (Redbeard) had excellent performance with RF DAVIS “Buryflex” Coax in his truck tractor. (DX ENGINEERING has their own version). The run to the radio mount can’t have THAT many turns to it.

Bonds are going to be key, IMO. The bed, alone, probably needs four. And the the exhaust pipe, it might need more than one. Doors, one or two. Hood, both sides. Etc. www.k0bg.com

No reason that radio with a perm mount SIRIO isn’t the talkingest radio across Tom Green County and the ones surrounding. That’s CB nirvana for easy distances.

I’m just up the road in Lubbock today on a 34-reset. Radio performance due to installation IS the problem once environmental problems are extra low.

My 102 is 1.0 on all bands guess I will just stick to that...

Undertaker check my old post below describing an old 105' foot RG8x feed line that had been installed on an A99 for about 5 years and I discovered it had been contaminated due to water...which had turned the shield green and black.

Based on your story I think maybe you are experiencing very heavy losses in your antenna system just as others have already talked about regarding the lack of ground.

See if you can do some continuity checks at various points on your truck without mucking up the finish too much.

This is not to imply you have a feed line problem however.

I've had 2 Wilson 1000's go bad. One, the coil came loose on one end from hitting trees. The other one, water got into the coax at the base and caused the SWR to go way high.
 
Bobby , The " Antenna God('s) have spoken . They got this Popcorn is Popping ! If they say it ... Gospel ! Too me anyway . I am not worthy .:)
