hello, just picked up a realistic trc427 for $5.00

i would like to do something constructive and i have a extra din plug that i have stripped and would like to make my own 5 pin din to 4 pin astatic for a lollipop or d104 power mic adapter.
i ordered one but i would like to try a power mic on it as the stock mic is muddcrudd.

on my extra din plug i have these wires:

pin 1 yellow
pin 2 green to shield
pin 3 blank
pin 4 purple
pin 5 red

Realistic 5-pin............... Cobra/Galaxy 4-pin......... D104

1 - ground ....................1 - ground/shield ........... shield

2 - n/c or ground

3 - xmit ........................3 - xmit ........................ red

4 - audio ...................... 2 - audio ...................... white

5 - recv ........................4 - recv ....................... black

how about removing and extracting the din off the chassis of the radio and replacing with a 4 pin cobra chassis plug? the adapter i bought only sequels on the radio. so time for phase two extract and replace.

I have a 4 wire turner plus 2 microphone which i am having trouble finding the correct wiring instructions for a old realistic trc 431. Can someone help?

Are we paying attention to the oddball order of the pin numbers on a standard 5-pin DIN plug?

Looking at the back of the plug, pin 1 is on the left, pin 2 is top center, and pin 3 is far right.

Pin 4 is between 1 and 2. Pin 5 is between 2 and 3.

Weird, but this makes the numbering compatible with the 3-pin DIN. Seems like they should have thought ahead when the first 3-pin DIN plug became a standard.

I am not 100% sure but I think it's Pin 1 Shield & Red,Pin 3 Black,Pin 4 White.It has been a very long time but it's worth a try I think.

Use this diagram to see the differences between the two chassis jack solder side connections as you look at it from inside the radio. It can be confusing sometimes if you just look at the mic plug solder side connections without looking at the female side from the front of the plug. I rarely go by colors, they can change. Simply disconnect one wire at a time and move it over to the corresponding pin on the Cobra jack. I’m not sure about the size hole that particular radio has, so expect to enlarge it somewhat to make the Cobra jack fit. The case slots that fit around it may also need enlarging.

If you followed my above diagram, plug in a stock Cobra mic to see if your receive still mutes. If all is well in that case, I suspect you’re using one of the early D104 power mics that’s wired inside for relay switching, commonly used on many 23 channel radio that contain a relay for all their switching needs. You can change the wiring inside your D104, but I personally don’t recommend messing with it unless your particular D104 has the relay / electronic switching option, some models do. Too many novices change out the wrong wires, often resulting in the battery getting left on when not in use among other problematic issues. I would just use another power mic that has the electronic switching option.

Thanks, but its a Turner Plus 2 mic, not a D-104. 73
