Texas Star sweet 16 and higher SWR

Dmans that’s interesting. I’ll put my president richard in-line and recheck it in awhile. It puts out 50 watts on a variable knob.

This problem I just complained about a few minutes ago went away mysteriously. I just rechecked everything and they are low again even with my amplifier turned off. I don’t know if there’s something inside of my amplifier that’s causing me issues or if I had a bad cable or what

TK,
My money (2 cents) is on a bad jumper cable.

I wouldn't think a 1:7.1 SWR would be bad for a Texas Star but I do not run transistor amps. Best to get some info from guys that do.

Good luck!

Very eager to get this. I’m wondering if an rm Italy kL 203 would make a good driver for it. I don’t have a radio that puts out a stock 100 watts. Closest I can get is that president Richard, I get 50 watts pep out f it. Everything else I have to drive with some kind of small amplifier

Now here’s what’s weird.

With my Texas Star 500V turned off, my swr is sky high. Like a little over 3 on channel 40. And 1.2 on channel 1. Because I keep my amp in-line but only use it when skip rolls.

But when I turn it on, they drop. To 1.5 on channel 40 and 1.2 on channel 1.

At this point, I’m scared to key my radio. I have no idea if this is good or bad or if I’m going to burn shit up

That sounds like a bad connection. A friend used to have the same issue once a year. He wouldn't solder the shield on his coax connectors and when the corrosion set in he had high swr. Fire up the amp and it went back down. He used to have hell trying to tune an antenna with bad coax too.

Someone else mentioned a bad jumper. I would check every one between the radio and antenna.

Something I've done for almost 20+ years, I check the SWR at the antenna< most important thing. I've never used a watt meter to check SWR, only to set a dead key from my radio. To much going on With the watt meter inline and power. I've never had a problem and to me, watt meters are eye candy. But, your swr (AT) the antenna is where you can get a better understanding

Hi everyone this is my first post so hello
i have recently purchased a sweet 16 dx and i am driving it with a stryker sr-995hp it has a swr problem between the radio and the amp it sometimes cuts the radio out i have tested the swr after the amp and it is fine i run 213 cable into a shockwave 5/8 antenna any ideas on what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated

What does the SWR meter in the Stryker say the SWR is between the radio and amp? New Texas Star amplifiers seem to have more issues then they did years ago. If the SWR is high then the radio is not seeing 50 ohms from the amp, your amp will have to be worked on. You can mess around with different jumper lengths to fool the meter but this will not solve the problem.

Thanks for the reply the swr on the radio goes up high until radio cuts out but I put a really long patch cable I had about 15meters long and the swr stays stable at about 3 and radio does not cut out on the weekend I will change the 213 coax to lmr 400 and change all of the patch leads that I know are good that my friend uses on his sweet 16 even try another radio if none of this helps I will send amp for repair thanks heaps for the advice
