Question about alignment procedure

I am betting more likely that they specify that for safety to keep DC voltage levels from your circuit under test from getting in to the RF generator. I've noticed they almost all specify feeding it through a capacitor...
That is the truth. DC blocking is the main use.

Just recently, I looked up the alignment on a Royce 1-600A that I am (slowly!) working on and it calls for:

feed 455KHz by .01 uf into the 455KHz IF and tune everything from there out, then
feed Channel 13 in the RF jack and tune everything from the RF ams up TO the 455KHz IF.

Umm, okay.

TP16 is where you hook a 'scope input to peak L18 for max.

I think what you're referring to is on the next page, the first step in the receiver alignment. Says to feed 7.8 MHz from your signal generator to TP13, collector of TR10.

We don't bother with that, and peak L3 and L4 using an on-channel signal, tuned in the normal way.

Not sure why they tell you to do it this way. Makes no sense to me.

Does serve to remind me why we ditched the alignment procedures in so many of the Sams books, and use our own.

AMEN!!! I have ditched many of them...... It's not clear as to the need for the cap but most likely it is a precaution against DC at the test point.

I have an 8 digit b&k so should be ok. I already tried the mini amp as well didn't see a difference maybe I got a bad one. Which hp counter do you have kaos?

MK121, if you are having trouble picking up the IF freqs during an alignment, try cranking the SSB carrier balance trimmer resistor all the way one way.
be sure to put it back when you are done.

Thanks LC, I appreciate that tip. I'll definitely be giving it a try.

Hello I have a old school 2950 receives great on all modes and transmits great on AM but no transmit on SSB. Does anyone have any idea?
