Ok gang thoughts on this radio? I know it has the amp on the bottom which it seems most people don't like..

Thanks
Bobby

I had one, and as long as it is aligned correctly it works fine, but make sure the voltage on the finals are adjusted correctly.
It is a good stable SSB radio but it does not have the booming AM audio
It receives well.
If you tend to get long winded as Mike said it does and will get warm.
I liked mine and it worked well.

Well undertaker I have had one for about 5 years now or maybe 6, it works just fine.
It will do 225 modulating on ssb, but I usually only run it around 185 or so.

I really haven't used it very much, so it's still like new. I only have it as a spare and still use my old (very old) 2970dx 100 watter.

Mine runs just fine on a Pyramid 35, pulls around 21 amps modulating.

I've had countless flavors of them. Bought one when they came out. I'd never buy another. They are OK for what they are, but that white noise is so fatiguing to listen to. I've made gobs of CW mobile contacts with them. Still the best cheap exporty rig for that purpose, though.

I’ve always admired RANGER.

Way beyond my budget back when introduced. It’s what I really wanted to see on my dash getting down the road. When I thought about mobile radio (late 1980s; digital readout) seeing a 29-series the first time fit my idea of HOW it should look. And reading about it upped my idea of what was desirable.

Today I’d want the 2950DX and a separate amp. Some DSP filtration on the receive.

How about the 2950 plus an RM ITALY 7405? A West Mountain Radio ClearSpeaker. Mount it all in a TAC COMM TRC-2 Portable Carrier (Radio is 7.75”W; TRC-1 is 7.5”W).

A braced laptop stand from the GALLS catalog? Ford pickup pretty easy to get first responder equipment. Easily install or remove as desired.

Pretty much any other set-up will weigh the same or less. Thus the proof for that install. Would make a heck of a mobile “big CB/SSB radio”.

Put that President TEXAS antenna on its BREEDLOVE puck to a workout.

And you can quit hiding the controller for the multi-horn La Cucaracha set you already installed. Spray that ABS switch box with chrome aerosol paint and proudly mount it atop the carrier on the stand.

The TX-activated dancing neon undercarriage lights you can cut out as you get off US-277 for TX-70 to the T/A Travel Center at Sweetwater to catch the Ch 17 Permian Basin traffic on IH20.

Practice the accent and booming voice of that Juarez funeral home radio announcer with the All-in-One multi-burial package discount.

That'll be an, “Appointment in Samarra”, (Maugham) shock for some who thought they were safely away, ha!

Now the imagine the horror they feel when trying to turn off THAT VOICE via the AM-FM . . . .
