What is the red fastener retaining substance used in every radio, and where does one obtain such substance?
And, can God make a rock so big that he himself cannot lift, (Carlin 1970). I just threw that in there to divert getting trashed about my question.

Every though kaos513 already answered I'll throw this in.

Asking questions and then receiving and retaining information is how we learn.

Now, there are those who will ask the same question repeatedly because they either fail to retain the information, or want a different answer.

So while there are no dumb questions, there are a lot of inquisitive idiots.

Are you referring to the enamel that gets dribbled onto threaded fasteners to lock them down?

We use clear nail polish. When a final or regulator transistor gets changed here, we put a dab of "Sally Hansen Hard as Nails" clear on the screw head or nut. A radio that's headed into a truck should always have critical fasteners locked this way.

locktite comes in different flavors. Red is likely what yer referring to. It can be a bear to unloosen anything it's applied to without heat. Blue is what I use mostly.

it's not loctite.

It is a 3M product used as a torque seal.

There is actually a thread on this forum where a member posted the actual product but i can't find it.

don't use loctite in radios please.
you're only going to piss your tech off.

I use nail polish as well. black, cause that's what the wife had.

By the way Loctite is the brand name of the many types of thread lockers that the Henkel company sells along with other products. It seems to get used as the generic name for all thread lockers kind of like Coke, Kleenex, Vise Grips, Channelocks, Mack Truck, etc do for their type of products. Many other companies sell thread lockers and color is not always an indication of it's strength. In the US it is as we go by the MIL SPECS. If it was assemble outside the US it could be a different color. That red or green we see in all the old radios could be a low strength. Also most thread lockers have an expiration date stamped on them.

(Forgot to add to the post title “by a newb. Correct or not, it’s the cherry on top)

As it’s ALWAYS funny no matter the ostensible forum subject, what starts to come out of the woodwork with “dumb Q by Newb”

Hellfire, we got Captain Kw as much as admitting to modifying the whistle diaphragms with a ridge for his Little Blue Box to produce a dead-on-center 2600-kHz tone as Draper directed. This info was never admitted publicly.
