Nor Cal Sierra Nevada
I live close to Yosemite National Park up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, above a sleepy little town from the 1800's called Mariposa.
Mariposa County was formed in 1850, before California became the 31st state.
The County Courthouse was built in 1854 and has been in continuous use to this very day.

One of the locals here, Bill Lowe put together a video that shows what life is like out here in our little town.
I wanted to share it with you guys.
Enjoy my back yard.

Beautiful area. I took Mountain Warfare training with Jarheads somewhere around there in the late 70's. Pickle something. Only got to run around a little, but would like to spend a week or so now. When I was a kid, I was sent to spend my summer with my Aunt and Uncle in Redding, CA. Jeff, have you ever been to the Olde West Gun and Loan? They owned that. Hopefully, I can visit Yosemite again.

I have Family that live in Redding, but have never been to Olde West Gun and Loan.
Most people think of the Ocean Beaches, The Monterey Bay Aquarium or Santa Cruz when they think of what is out here to see.
There is a lot of beautiful country up in the Sierra.
South of us is Kings Canyon National Park.
Kings Canyon, like Yosemite is a glacier-carved valley more than a mile deep. With 14,000-foot peaks, swift-flowing rivers, and some of the world's largest stands of giant sequoia trees, Kings Canyon is another place you should visit.
Boydens Cavern is awesome and the Giant Sequoias are magnificent.
Here is some of the well known areas of Yosemite

And here is a look at Kings Canyon.

The park service operates Cedar Grove Lodge right next to the Kings River deep in Kings Canyon. No cell phone service when I was there, so it was really nice. You could sit down by the river at a picnic table and just not care what's going on in the world.
