Mamma has taken me off of the Ramen sentence and is allowing me to look at radio goodies again.
I have a small surplus of cash and I want a SDR system.
Any recommendations? I want to buy a good functional system capable of tuning it all in.

I have a SDR Play RSP1A. It's pretty darn awesome. Just receives, though. Tons of stuff to do with it. Currently, I have it as my FM receiver with outdoor antenna. Picks up gobs of station. Sometimes, I use it a police scanner. Toyed with using as a pan adapter.

I'll send you my RSP1A to use for a month if you are interested.

I don't want to sell it. Figured you could use it to learn on. I can't remember what it cost, but I believe it was over $150. I'll mail the unit, cable and various SMA adapters to you. The drivers and software are online. It's an amazing little device. It's the size of a pack of smokes.

I'll have my new G90 to take its place, since it's an SDR.

Just PM ur address and I'll get it out in a couple days if you want to play with it.

Yep, SDR play IF you just want a receiver. Get the SDRPlay2 with extra antenna ports. I use it for 2 radios and 2 antennas. It's worth the few extra bucks for future expansion

You can use it as a stand alone with all kinds of options like running multiple RX for a sub receiver or even better, interface it to your radio and see your rigs receiver on the waterfall display with mouse clickable rig control on a computer monitor display and software.

There are many choices of free open source software to use with SDRplay such as my favorite, SDRUno. There are simpler single screen ones like SDR console and others.
