Eico 772W - can it be superwhackpacked?

Kidding on the title...

I have an old Eico that belonged to a family member that I’d like to get worked on by someone with a brain.

It worked fine last I played with it in the early 2000s, but I’ve sadly since lost the mic on one of my many moves.

So...Id like to get it checked out and have a mic wired for it.

Unfortunately, have no one I know of that I trust, or who would be competent and willing to help me get it ready for shipment.

Any suggestions?
 

Ahhhhh yes the Andy Griffith police radio/CB I have not worked on one of those for some time but I don't have many sending me radios from that time slot anymore, A few but not many. I think those were only 3 or 4 channels you would have fun finding crystals for channels that would make it useful. If you just happen to have channel 19 that would make the whole idea better. Microphones I have some old Turner Cs models and some old Shures all Old new stock items that would work an old Astatic would work fine as well. Neat old radios from the late 50's and 60's in good shape are getting real hard to come by.

Lol...thanks for that. Andy Griffith is a bit before my time! Looking at some pictures however, yep, that’s it!

I have a few crystals...at least a 9, 11, and a 9. My radio has one mod that I know of, one of the 4 channels is connected to a crystal holder mounted to the front of the radio. Makes changing outside the normal 4 channels a bit easier.

I guess I’ll have to find an old turner mic, and a 2 pin plug, and just check it out. A turner is what it had when I got it. I sure hope it still works after being stored for so long.
 
What it wants is a high-impedance mike. Crystal and ceramic mike elements qualify. Most dynamic mikes sold the last 30 or 40 years are low impedance, meant to match a solid-state radio. A high-impedance dynamic mike is rated at 50K ohms or higher. Most modern-day "straight" mikes are under 1000 ohms.

A low-impedance dynamic mike will work, but won't have much oomph.

I picked up a high-impedance Turner desk mic on EBay a few weeks ago to go with my Tram. I guess they didn't know what it was (or how much shipping is) because I bought it for $10 + $5.50 shipping and it works great.

I’ve been looking around trying to find something, but not seeing anything like what it had. It looked just like a Turner RK, except no metal grill or lip guard.

Glad to see you were kidding! I was going to tell you any radio can be super whack packed. Get good and drunk and go crazy with a pot tweaker and a soldering iron.

Mic came today...seems to be in excellent shape.

Still waiting on a two pin plug...does anyone happen to have an resources that might help me get the mic wired up correctly?

I’m thinking I’ll need to two leads off the element (via the switch), and put the shield to ground?
