Dipole antennas ?..

I don't no, never tried that.....

Only way I see I can hang it to support the middle is not bring it cross the yard.....these 2 tree's are like a 100ft tall I been told..

I was told a G5RV would work better on 20m, than just building a 20m dipole, is this correct ?....

Just looking to get a wire up for the 20m band, and maybe 17m band the end fed seems to do well on 40 and 80m bands......

Oatmeal,
May i suggest a half square antenna for 20 metres. If it was me I would go this route. Suspended by the 2 trees but have the connection point on the trees a lot higher than the antenna. That way with winds etc the trees can sway and not destroy the antenna.
Or,
Suspend a rope / cord etc high in both trees with slack, center of it would support the feedpoint of your dipole. Then arrange the ends of the dipole into an inverted vee, again with a chunk of bungie cord and redirect and a suspended weight for give.

The G5RV is a multiband compromise antenna. From my experience, its negative gain on most if those bands.
I agree

Please elaborate. I thought the g5rv had some gain on 20m. Was that some kind of hoax?
G5RV's are a bit of smoke and mirrors, I have never found them to have any gain. I had one up for a while and the current Fan Dipole I have now has better receive and seems to TX better(I don't get overly thrilled about TX performance of any antenna). What people like about them is they are fairly wide banded and easy to put up.

I've never used a g5rv. I don't have room for one without making it look trashy. I'm not a fan of them for multi band use but would expect one to work well on 20m if it were up in the clear. The g5rv fad seems to have been replaced by the end fed anyway.

I shoehorned in a zs6bkw and worked the world on a lot of bands. I use a 40m doublet and home rolled balanced tuners now and am a lot happier. Blows peoples minds on 75 and 160. :)
