Check out my new to me
Midland 70-050c 6 meter mobile.
My Elmer has 3 of these. 2 are used on his 6 meter repeater. This one has 40 watts. I'm using it on FM for local rag chew. Simple, but it works and sounds great.

I used to buy old commercial radios (Midland, Maxon, EFJ, etc.) and reprogram/re-tune them for the ham bands, and sell them at ham fests. The market died out for me after they got rid of the code requirement, and techs would buy HF/6m rigs, since they had phone privileges on 10m. Prior to that, finding a cheap 6m FM rig was tough.

I did a number of Midlands over the years for 6m. I had the Midland EEPROM programmer and a UV eraser (as well as many other programmers and RIBs). I enjoyed using those radios on 6m FM.

I’m sure you have 52.525 in there. I worked many stations on .525 during e skip events.

Those and similar Midland models work well on 6M FM. My local PD is on 44 MHz and I program a receive only channel so I can monitor them as well.
This radio is set to 53.450 FM with a pl of 100. It has others, like 52.525 , but we just use 53.450. There's really nobody around here that uses this small reapeater. We're up here in the sticks. We're hoping to get more activity, but not holding our breath. It's just fun. We talk every morning and afternoon. Having a radio just for this particular frequnecy is cool since it frees up my 7300 for other bands, and I can still monitor other HF.
Here's some pictures of some of the equipment we used putting this reapeater on line. It's all old stuff, that he calls junk, but it works excellent. If your ever near Roan Mountain, TN, give use a call. 73

The antenna is at approx 2800 ft, and the grid square should be the same as mine at EM86XD. Thanks for asking BJ radionut. He said it's published in SERA, but I haven't checked yet. This same reapeater was used a long time ago around here, and had a pretty good following out to about 40 miles. All the old Boys that use to use it, are either gone or Silent Keys now. It's a local reaperer, not a wide coverage. It puts out 100 watts on xmit.
Come on in, we'd love to here somebody else on this repeater. I mean we do do solve world problems everyday on the air, but those pesky politicians must not have 6 meters. Lol!

I may hook the analyzer to my 2m vert @48ft. That antenna 3-5/8th's waves stacked on 2m...which is 1/4 wave on 6m...may have to try that later!!
Tnx info! Be cool to work with you there.
I do well to Tenn on SSB...got 6 "L's" on 25 ft boom @40 ft...and close to a KW so I got a little smoke. I can get about 400 watts on AM/50.400 with that amp also with about 25 watts drive, so would expect near the same on FM:whistle:(y) That's using my FTdx3000D as the driver!~

I am EM79 about 35 miles East of Indianapolis:whistle::)

It would be awesome to work your station on 6. I have a 6m horizontal dipole for Dx. Maybe we could work out a comm sked on SSB.
To be honest my only DX so far on 6m has been To Kingsport TN which is only 40 miles lol, but I keep trying. Usually on 50.125 ssb. Some DX right? Hahaha. I know it's not DX, but for around here it is. Coming from your direction shouldn't be to hard theoretically. I only have a few ridges in that direction.

Well couple stations, I bet would hear you on a good day.
W4HLR/Howard/ EM56 about 75 miles N. of Memphis (stacked 5's @60ft)
WA4Q/ Harry/EM57/ Think he has 8 "L's" at like 50 feet.
Howard listens there a BUNCH on 50.145 and 50.125 in the mornings, as I do.
I can work those 2 op's just about anytime...some days better than others though...6m is magic...So you never know.
Our Meteor Scatter group is on every morning on 50.145 from 7:am Eastern time till around 8: am +/-...
Many Good Ear stations on at that time, so you might listen there in the mornings!(y)
Just call your heart out(20-meter Contest Audio!!!)...guys will answer...We welcome all!!!
The band was really FLAT today around Sunrise, but still managed Lou/MO/Minn/OH/FLA and was heard in TX near San Antonio just could not get the official contact done.
All the Best

Roger that. I will definitely get on the air and make some noise. Thanks for the comm sked info. I really need to get my antenna up in the air more. I've just been working around the property lately, with all this good WX. Soon, when it gets cold out is usually when I hang antennas. My Son and I hung my end fed up Christmas day, and it was 10°. That was a bit chilly. I've got a nice wire dipole already made up, just have to get it up in some trees when all the leaves are gone. It won't be long.
You've got me thinking 6 meters now. I love this hobby. (y)
