Hello everyone, its been a while. Ive been without comms all summer. There is a light though. Getting ready to pour the concrete for my tower. Its 34' tall with a 10 ' mast on top. i have a My antenna 80/10 that im going to run from it. But i would like to put one of my antennas on top. Now my confusion, I have an A99 and a Spt 500. Im going to keep one for cb but want the other for 10 meter. Im looking for suggestions. I have all new lmr 400 and picked up a used yaesu ftdx 1200. antenna tuner is on the next to get list. CB is a Galaxy 2547.

Thank you. Im looking for local mostly on 10 meter. Do you think having a vertical for 10 meter is redundant. I mean, should it perform better than the endfed? If not, i may tune the spt for 11 meter and put it as high as i can.

An End-Fed is not going to be great for local raw chewing but it will be slightly quieter for DX work than a vertical. They are not really redundant at all but you may find yourself preferring one over the other.

Thank you again. I think i know now the direction im headed. SPT 500 on top of the tower for 11 meter. A99 on a chimney mount tuned for 10.

Personally, I would do the opposite.
Tune the SP500 for 10 meters up high on the tower. Tune it so best VSWR at like 28.100 and 28.500 near > 1.5:1...You may find it is broadband enough to use the top end of the CB band.
Put the A99 on the chimney mount for 11m.
But just me!!~~~:whistle::LOL:
All the Best

most chimneys are not good structures for antenna mounts.......... YMMV

Personally, I would get the SP500 as high as possible, tune it for 28.400 +/-, use an antenna tuner for any other bands, if necessary, ...... and pitch the A99.

Very nice. Next year , i would like to put up a Mosely. Ive been looking at the 33 jr. But for this winter im just looking to be operational.

The tower is up. Oh boy. Did it in an ice storm. SPT500 on top set for 11 meter. My antennas ef-8010 set 5' below. Almost operational. Another day or two. Thanks to you all for all of the help past, present and future.
Good thinking on the ice storm, I have heard that new antennas work best when put up in bad weather... Haha! Glad you got it going, I am itching to put up a tower myself.

My choice would also be the A99 for 10 meters. Tried and true, easy to tune, and it’s the most popular antenna used on 10 meter beacons. Either antenna is good for both local or DX, but IMO the SPT-500 will perform better locally. 10 meters all about making DX contacts. You won’t hear many locals on that band.
