Tallman, I believe it's a bandpass filter I need? When I go to talk on AM. I am told I sound off frequency, There is no AM filter on the board. SSB I am told sounds real good I,m not an expert on filters. But I think what I need is a Crystal/Mechanical filter? for AM I did look around for one on eBay but had no luck finding one for sale. Looking at Menu setting...the MRK V has a max transmit bandwidth if only 3 kc wide without mods.

Thank's for all the help guys, I am a member of the Yaesu FT-1000MP group in Yahoo. I thought I would ask here first being this is my favorite group. One question? If I was to buy and install the Inrad AM filter would that give me the 6k bandwidth that I need for modulation on AM? So I don't sound off frequency? AM receive audio sounds great. The trouble is in my modulation on AM. I really don't know if the AM filter has anything to do with transmitting audio? I don't want to waste money on a filter if it's not going to help with transmitting on AM, 73'S

Thanks, Chris, From what I have read it's starting to look like in order to have good audio on AM. The Murata ceramic filter that is used on AM tx and RX. Needs to be removed and put in a wider filter, Along with other Mods to get it to sound good on AM. Not sure what all is needed to do the audio mod? Think I should have just found another Yaesu ft-102.

Appreciated. I went to the site and tried some of the adjustments. And in the menu, some of the settings did not match. I suppose it's because the info is for the MP And not for the MP MKV. It's hard to believe there is not much if any info for using the MKV on AM I am really surprised.

The radio is a technological wonder... given that, AM, and especially AM in the FCC 40 Citizen's band, is not its intended forte.
I have spent countless hours and $$$ figuring out that while "(Insert big-dollar whiz-bang ham radio make and model here) sure LOOKS good," they fail to perform to how you think they should sound on CB.
Maybe not what you are shooting for here, but only mentioning this to others to save them a ton of headache, heartache and wallet-lightening.
You want CB that sounds good on AM? Buy a CB that sounds good on AM.
From my readings and listenings, the current state of the HAM art is being done in what is generously called eSSB. That's kind of where my experimental yearnings are right now. I have a 'loud' CB and it is a Uniden brand, model is Grant XL.

The easiest way to do essb on HF is an Anan SDR. The software has all the audio processing you'll need and it will go as wide or narrow as you want. They will make 10khz ssb and 20khz AM. Not recommending that but they are capable.
Wrap puresignal around an old cb amp and it's clean as a whistle, no splatter. I use mine remotely with a hyperX gaming headset (cheaper than headsets on the ham market) and it sounds pretty darn good.
If you are old school there are modifications for older rigs on the voodoo audio website.
I really want to get my ham ticket. I had been looking at the FT-1000MP MKv for some time. So I bought one from Eric W4AVT. He had just had it sent to Byron WA4GEG and had him go threw it and also had a alignment done. He told me it cost him right around $300.00 Right before I Bought it. He even hand delivered it to me from over 2 hours away. Very honest and also a very nice man to deal with. I Got the transceiver stock mic owners manual Schematics world map and he even threw in a copy of qrz lol. I Thought if I Could get the AM mode to sound as good as my Mal FT-102 transceivers I would really have a nice transceiver. I was blown away by the receive both in AM and SSB. I have been told it really sounds good on SSB. I have been reading on the voodoo audio website. About how to make it sound good on AM, Also reading on the Essb Modification. I was hopping to get it to sound good on AM until I read in order to get AM to sound good the 11 x 7mm Murata 455Khz filter, CFWS455HT Had to be replaced in order to increase the overall transmitted sibilance to roughly 6Khz; 12Khz total transmitted bandwidth. They said to replace it with a CFWS455F. I can not find that filter? So without that filter I Guess I'm going to be selling the ft-1000mp mkv. That was a big disappointment to find out after selling off all of my radio gear just to be able to buy the transceiver. I am still very impressed with the ft-1000mp mkv. There is so much you can do with it. The transceiver has SSB and shortwave If filters. I Believe it's only missing the AM filter. She looks new and works like new. So Guess I am going to be on the lookout for another Yaesu ft-102 with the am/fm board and filters done by MAL. If I Can find someone that has one in great working and looking condition. I mite be interested in trading along with some cash. They would be getting a very very nice transceiver in return Know question about that. Thanks 543 Dallas and ButtFuzz for the info. Do you think that software would also work on AM Transmit as well without changing the AM filter? The only thing I changed was to wire a Astatic handheld power mic up. The mistake was I lost the wiring code you know that tells you which color goes to which pin on the stock mic. I wrote it down on paper so If I sold the radio I could wire the stock mic back up. Now I can't find the wiring code anywhere? 73,
