QSLing 11 Meter contacts

Well - if you want every one in the world to know where your house is, then by all means just use your home address....

Remember there is Google!.

I cannot pass on the opportunity to pick your brain...if I can ask one more question!

What exactly is an “activation”??

I’ve talked to stations like 347/19DX012...a guy from the Netherlands operating in Curacao, and also 3IR117/HB25...which I don’t know what that means?

I sent a QSL for the 347 div to manager for the 19dx call, but didn’t find anything for 3IR.

Okay, I figured that much, I just didn't know if there was another reason. When I'm Hamming anyone could look me up via the call book and get that info, but it's something to consider... Tnx.

Activation - for us on 11 meters, it means that a person or persons have started operating from a certain country. They transmit from that location for about 7 days, this will give people from around the world a chance to make contact with that country.

What is 347/19DX012? 347 division - 19 the operator is from the Netherlands - DX is the club (Delta Xray) - 012 is his number.

3IR117 - 3 is from Brazil - IR (International Radio club) - 117 is his number. Not sure of the HB25.

Ok, I’m understanding. The 347 call is what I thought it was, however Curacao does have other permanent stations.

I’ll have to crack the code on the /HB25 call from Brazil.

The operator from the 19 division is there on vacation probably, that's why is call sign is designated the way it is. If he was doing a activation then he would add a "O" or "DX" on the end of the call sign.

The HB25 could mean several things, u would have to ask him what it is.

Good info, Larry. So I shouldn’t be using my home address...lol!

Even though my call sign is invented (2NC995) I have had much better luck using something with a standard format.

I otten hear American operators using “123 in the Cornfields” and things like that, and when asked their division, they do not know. Pretty clear that hampers success.
I think most Americans are not aware that they are in division 2. International DX is not promoted here for 11m like it is in the rest of the world for some reason. My call "2DE808" is made up or not official because I thought people from other countries would not be willing to talk to me without it. The DE being Delaware seemed logical. Oh and the American Eagle group I was not able to sign up for either due to some log on error...... Maybe I will start my own club. Haha

Mine is “November Charlie” for North Carolina ;)

I was with the AE group (American Eskimo) for a few years back in the 90's - AE178

There are lots and lots of people in North America that work International DX on 11 meters. When the cycle comes around again, about 2023, take listen above ch. 40 every now and then - you will find lots of guys and gals talking up there.

Dledinger - might want to do some checking on NC call that you are using, there might be a international group out there with that call sign, if there is, then it might create some confliction over the air waves - just saying....

I did some checking before I settled on it, and couldn’t find anything. Not to say that I’m correct, because so many of the club lists are outdated.
