Awe man.....just go one too. Have not hooked it up yet. Clay's Radio stated my 30 amp pwr supply would be fine. Local Ace doesn't have 8 or 6 gauge wire, hence not working.

Was wondering what amp draw. Clay's stated 27 amp for the N2. Full power.

You bought new?

I thought I remember if something inside was mis-tuned these N2 radio's became amperage hogs. Can't remember if it was a bias or voltage setting somewhere. If it was off though a 52 amp supply even would not work.

Some dummy questions:

1). What’s the fuse rating?

2). How good is the household circuit? Quality of outlet plus type of install (stab box or wire curled to screw).

3). Circuit rated 15 or 20A? Greater? Part of original mains panel, or an add-box? Wire gauge &brand same at panel & outlet?

4). What else on circuit?

Newest house I bought was 1952. Had three sub panels. Not fun to find problem with a tripping/shorting swimming pool pump. (Very bad work).

HD & Lowe’s not much help either.

I got 6-AWG welding cable (EWCS-brand) from Amazon but quick. The 2-AWG has a 105C rated cover. Lugs, shrink wrap, etc, all seem decent.

The $42 hydraulic crimper was the best part.

It’s not ANCOR wire (the better choice), but seems decent.

I got couple hundred feet of 2/0 weld lead.

customcbradios. I talked to him today said the radio is not getting enough power. Trying to figure out how to get the 6 gauge wire to hook to the power supply. it is a 52 amp supply

Power supplies don’t always work out the way we think they will.

For example, I connected my Lincoln II to a “7amp” power supply. Not intending to run it that way, but I figured I could play around with it. I can’t get 8 watts PEP out of the radio before a low voltage shutdown.

Math wise, 13.8X 7 amps = 96 watts. Even if the radio is 20% efficient, it should be able to run 15+ PEP no problem...except it won’t.

My theory, which is just a guess, is that the undervoltage protection in the radio works faster than the power supply can regulate.

The radio of course has no issues running full output in my pickup, and sings along happily truck on or off.

Possibly the power supply can't handle the peak surge that is required when first keyed, and the output voltage is folded back. Which makes the radio cut out. A big capacitor like what Farmer Brown uses will help the peak power when first keyed.
