What's the best SDR radio?

Yep, SDR play IF you just want a receiver. Get the SDRPlay2 with extra antenna ports. I use it for 2 radios and 2 antennas. It's worth the few extra bucks for future expansion

You can use it as a stand alone with all kinds of options like running multiple RX for a sub receiver or even better, interface it to your radio and see your rigs receiver on the waterfall display with mouse clickable rig control on a computer monitor display and software.

There are many choices of free open source software to use with SDRplay such as my favorite, SDRUno. There are simpler single screen ones like SDR console and others.
Checking out Sdrplay now. Good stuff!

I still need to figure out what to do for a computer. Just gathering info to see what is what. Thanks for the input.

When running 10 Mhz wide, you need a little snappy PC. There's some talk about the new unit having more ability as a scanner. There are other programs you can use to monitor Trunking systems, but it's cumbersome. I'd like to see their native software decode all the goodies. All they say, is wait for the change log. I know there was tremendous pressure in this area.

I believe its called Hack RF. It's a SDR transmitter with very low power. It has output all the way up to 2 gigs. I don't know much about it yet, but I read where amplifiers are available for it. I think it's output power is under 100 milliwatts.

SDR Play has commented that they receive requests for a transceiver version. I'd be very interested in something like that.

Lol, I only glanced over an article on it. I though it had more output than that. I do believe there's a specific amp that has been made for it. It's not commercial, though. Just wonder how they'll add filtering to these SDR's. I'll have to dig that article up.
