Hopefully this will be a short thread because I could not locate a thread relating to external speakers.
I found a new Cobra S500 external speaker in its original box and no literature, packed-away with other "stuff" I haven't seen for a few years. There is one black wire with a 90 degree 5mm male plug which fits into the radio's external speaker jack and a red wire with a straight 5mm male plug. The speaker works fine with the black wire plugged into the radio's external speaker jack. Does anyone know what the red wire is used for? The speaker does not work when the red wire is plugged into the radio's external speaker jack.
Thanks in advance if you have the answer.

I go to garage sales and flea markets and buy old stereo speakers. The better ones have frequency crossovers built in and use either two or three speakers to divide tone. These kind of stereo speakers works very well and make for a cleaner sound reproduction. Can be found fairly cheap - too.

OK thanks for the quick replies you guys. That solves that mystery. I will file that feature in the same "do not use" folder with the electronic rear window and the remote tailgate options on my truck.

I Must say,THANKS for keeping another useless Noise Toy OFF THE AIR.GOD BLESS you Sir.Sounds like a nice wire too clip OFF inside the speaker so nobody ever sees it so they will never use it. {:>)

Why is Talkback a "useless Noise Toy" to keep "off the air"? It doesn't affect anyone but the operator. It's not echo, roger beep or a noise toy.. might not be very useful in most situations but I would hardly consider talkback to be a Noise toy.

I saw a post here somewhere where someone said “talkback is only there to make sure the radio still squeals with it on”.

I’ve never had a use for it, but wouldn’t call it a noise toy either.
