Can't find a whole lot of info on this one. I see it only has 3 bands and wonder what the coverage is after expansion? Anybody have one of these and if so how do they like it?

Looks like a simplified smaller size Export radio option. Here is what I found. It appears that 3 bands of coverage is all it will do.

The new Galaxy Dx-86v is a simplified version of the Dx99v2 in a "Cobra 29/Galaxy Dx929" size chassis. The galaxy Dx86v also features a front 4 pin mic jack, AM/SSB, Backlit Starlite faceplate. It has the same power as previous Galaxy High Power(HP) models.

*Compact Chassis (Only 7.25" Wide)
*Large SWR/RF Meter
*5 Digit Frequency Counter (Blue SMT LED)
*AM/SSB (No FM)
*Fine/Coarse Clarifier
*Backlit Faceplate
*Dual MOSFET Output (around 40w tuned)
*Front Mic

Comes with 4 pin stock mic
*Automatic SWR Check (Does not set SWR)
*Same Power As The Dx99v2

*No Echo, no +10KHz switch, no PA, no FM, no Roger Beep. Note: The Clarifier will work as a 10KHz switch.

It's all about the size of the opening in the new trucks' overhead racks. That's where the radio pretty much has to go, especially if it's not your truck. They make the openings just big enough for a Cobra 29 or smaller. The Galaxy-size radios just won't go. And a radio with the mike socket on the side won't go at all.

People grumbled that the small opening outline was meant to keep drivers from using "illegal" radios that are too big to fit.

The new models are smaller for a reason.

They'll fit.

Spy vs Spy.

Oh the big radios will fit. It's just that no one wants to put any effort in or be creative. I drive a 2019 tractor and have a full size radio with side mic.(y)

I have a 99v2. “Creative” involves cutting. Plus the tractor has other electronics mounted up there (2019 579 Pete)

Taking out the center sun visor and running bolts thru those holes about it.

Then it’s legally a LOS issue; a thief magnet; and the sun cooks it.

Otherwise, Velcro to dashtop.

From a driver/mobile standpoint the 86 has the high side and low side and is all you might need for the most part frequency wise. Just make sure your mobile antenna has the bandwidth. Tuned right it's a nice radio but the 66 has echo, if that's a preference. I ran the 66 in the truck and the 86 at the base and liked them both and have no complaints.

I have a DX99v2 in my pickup and a DX86V in my work truck. After expansion The DX86V has the standard CB 40, the 40 above, and the 40 below the standard CB band. Receive and power sound exactly the same as my 99V2. Only thing I really miss on the 86V is the +10khz switch. Only thing I miss on the 99V2 is the backlit faceplate.

Right product. Galaxy nailed it. I have a 979, but the 86 would be the choice over it today where the 99v2 won’t fit. (A KL203 won’t add enough to be worthwhile).

Just add a West Mountain Radio ClearSpeaker.

(I prefer either a 980 Uniden or a McKinley . . . but fun on 19 is still the Galaxy trump card).

how bad is the drift on the 86v?? I was entertaining one to use as a base and move the AT6666 to my pickup.

How good is your 979 as far as drift?? Again torn on 979 or 86v as possible base rig.
