Unwanted Talkback

Mine does it too...and even through the internal speaker. It did it REAL bad with a meter inline. Mostly gone with it out but still noticeable.

I didn't notice it on mine:unsure: I only had it mobile for a week before I replaced it with a Grant II, but I guess I'll go out an hook it up again just to be sure.

Woody, I have it in a mobile now and I don’t notice it. I sure did indoors though. For some reason it really didn’t play with my Daiwa wattmeter.

Discussed briefly in the CB equipment exchange thread..another poster said he observed it also.

No idea what the deal is. It’s a good rig and I sure like it.

Yeah. My only gripe is with the display, and being hard-to-see driving w/ bright sunlight, but I guess that's more to do with how/where I had to mount it in the SUV. I've only had unwanted talkback once before, many years ago. But I divorced her before it got too loud...

HAHA. Reminds me of joke I use every visit to the dentist when they notice wear on my teeth...

”Sir, do you have a problem with grinding your teeth”

Not since my divorce!

FWIW, I’ve put some wall wart toroids (Palomar) on each end (multiple wraps) and that helps. Until I kick the amp on.

(This is in the big truck where it’s all within two feet of my head; speaker to left, speaker power & comm cables across mid-view, Radio to right in overhead. Same plane. Radio coax exits far right).

Have covered those cables in split loom.

Separately, the WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO CLEARSPEAKER tends to be quite sensitive to anything stray. Grounding radio chassis to truck metal helped. Finally added BHI GROUNDBREAKER to speaker and that nailed the overly-sensitive problem. Have to be careful about feedback no matter what.

Still, with any amp turned on (RM ITALY 203 or 7505), i get some tiny amount of feedback with Uniden 880, 885, 980.

I don’t always notice it as years of talkback use have conditioned me to hearing my voice (I like to assume it mine, some days/nights on the road one wonders).

Yes, I’d prefer it gone. An option not chosen.

I’ve ordered a Greenlee chassis punch to install a Breedlove puck (need to order that today) on the CTD (Cummins TurboDiesel) roof-center. Still haven’t figured what radio mount. (Geno’s Garage Brolin Mount that works with having a man trans for interim).

But this is where the 99V2 Galaxy is going to live, down underneath that President Texas antenna. (I think a 7405 to go with it.)

That pickup is going to be the testbed hereon. As test tools are the next round of where to $$.

Update:

Forgot the mike cable itself until reminded by another contributor replying on a different thread.

Have the Galaxy 99v2 in the Peterbilt now and “talkback” was worse.

Three turns thru a 31 Mix snap at the radio and

it’s gone!!

  • 110% “gone” in this mobile? Gone its no longer a concern

As changing radios is no simple task, I’ll leave it others to check this against a 980.

This was PALOMAR ENGINEERS FSB31-1/2-1 $5.50/ea

I also have them on the two cables to the DSP speaker. 1/2” ID
