Galaxy dx86v

how bad is the drift on the 86v?? I was entertaining one to use as a base and move the AT6666 to my pickup.

it’ll move around about .5 khz for few minutes until it is warmed up.
On a cold morning vs fully warmed up it could move 1khz. After that, it seems pretty stable. I like mine. But to fair, these two Galaxy radios are my first SSB radios I have owned. Other than the Stryker 955 that I had for a month that let the factory smoke out.

So does it settle down abit to normal say 27.3850 or 27.3851. I planned on using in the house as a base. Temp is avg about 65-70 all the time.

my guess is it probably will hardly move much inside the house with a constant temp. All my setups are mobile. Also, that sixth digit 27.385x is just a guess.

Your 955 should have been light years better on SSB as far as stability compared to any Galaxy SSB radio.

when in SSB mode, my 955 meter would peg and the radio would shut down completely. After letting two different shops try and fix it, it popped. It is now a $500 paperweight. AM worked, but the AM receive was either noisy or nonexistent. I bought it in 2013 and it lasted a month.

the 955 experience actually put me off buying another SSB radio for 3 years until I finally bought the 99v2. I enjoyed the 99v2 enough that I bought the 86v for my work truck.

On paper the 955 looks perfect. I may try one again someday, but it will have to be a heck of a deal for me. My next radio might be a Lincoln II+

Looks like a simplified smaller size Export radio option. Here is what I found. It appears that 3 bands of coverage is all it will do.

The new Galaxy Dx-86v is a simplified version of the Dx99v2 in a "Cobra 29/Galaxy Dx929" size chassis. The galaxy Dx86v also features a front 4 pin mic jack, AM/SSB, Backlit Starlite faceplate. It has the same power as previous Galaxy High Power(HP) models.

*Compact Chassis (Only 7.25" Wide)
*Large SWR/RF Meter
*5 Digit Frequency Counter (Blue SMT LED)
*AM/SSB (No FM)
*Fine/Coarse Clarifier
*Backlit Faceplate
*Dual MOSFET Output (around 40w tuned)
*Front Mic
Comes with 4 pin stock mic
*Automatic SWR Check (Does not set SWR)
*Same Power As The Dx99v2

*No Echo, no +10KHz switch, no PA, no FM, no Roger Beep. Note: The Clarifier will work as a 10KHz switch.

My DX86v clarifier does not slide the 10khz needed to make up for not having the 10khz switch. The five channels that the 10khz switch is used for still cannot be reached.

inside on the mini board that was used for conversion is a 10k spot and 8v spot. Add switch to that and put switch in empty PA speaker hole on back. And done. There is a guy that did the mod with video. Also shows clarifier mod and tone mod.
