How do you do that?

Destroy their economy?

No, well - at least not directly...

Make things cheaper throughout the supply chain...from the discrete level and the Basic substrate (raw ore) on up to the sheer "copycat" of the original die...(MRF 454 - MRF455?)

Make it so that the others cannot follow our steps - bury our work into the very hills of our Fathers lands and shut out any contact to the outside world just to make these parts and pieces to fit only what we make - ignore all else. Make it so that no one can even repair or restore what which we build - for only we can offer any hope of making it work for you again - no one else can...

Whatever they bought from scrap dealers and wholesalers that broke down these machines, dies and platforms - into buyable, shippable pieces to migrate over to another country - only to be reassembled as an actual machine for them to study - I see that plain as day in this...they found a way...

Heck, everything I type, you post - we add in replies - can all be read and processed anywhere in the world. As I try to help others fix radios - someone else learns too. But to what advantage? I don't mind sharing way to fix things...What I do worry about is those that take advantage of others that don't know. Those that really should learn that could benefit themselves and others from it.

Just remember that what comes up in this vid is about how we are buying this remake technology. We took faith in the Manufacturers that they took care of removing or destroying the very technology that can be used against us, we surrendered that to a scrapyard or got it mothballed - only to have the very pieces brought back to be assembled by a country that sees any other competition as a threat unto itself and will act accordingly - we, by buying this stuff are funding, the companies backed by and follow thru on that very notion...

I think the point is that the days of quality Japanese transistors is over and all thats left are cheap knockoffs and no one knows how many amps are now full of fake Toshiba's.
That being said at least the HG pills are a better quality knockoff than the fake Toshiba's but I still won't pay for the hg what I was paying for toshiba.
These technologies were developed by scientists from around the globe. None of this was Americas alone. Its only been in the last 30 years we've seen the stealing of tech by the Chinese and poor quality copycats. Now with the internet its easier to peddle their junk to unsuspecting buyers.

Might need some kind of active attenuator on the input to swamp the excess drive.
The Toshiba has a typical power gain of 15.5db where the Mitsubishi FET has 11.5db. This means the drive power to reach the 100 watt rating should be close to double on the Mitsubishi.

Copying the input and output transformer ratios in an HF rig will go a long way at getting both of those impedances close to 50 ohms too. Do not rely on the overly simple bias circuit in the datasheet either. Copy the bias from the HF rig because thermal tracking becomes important with these parts when operated at full output in class AB.
 
Looking at the typical power curve graphs in the RD100 datasheet, it shows that 11.5db gain point is at 10W input power, basically saturating the transistor close to 117W output. The gain goes up as you back the power down to the 100W point and goes up significantly if you are running them at about 50% like they are used in HF rigs. This is true of the Toshiba 2879 parts also. This is why negative feedback from collector to base or drain to gate is required to make the gain curve as flat as possible from 0W to 100W. You must reduce the gain at lower power levels to be equal to the higher power levels. This also causes the overall drive requirements to increase somewhat.
From what little hands-on experience that I have with the RD100 parts, they take very little drive to get a pair of them to 100W (how they're are used in an HF rig). Compared to more modern Mosfet technologies, like LDMOS, the RD100's gain is more like a bipolar device, but I suspect that their gates can be blown just as easily as most other RF Mosfets when overdriven. That would be my main concern.
 
I built a monobander using 2 of the rd100’s several years ago. Did well, a pair with 20w pep drive is pushing it. Saw just over 200w pep. Input was a little touchy, was only able to get down to 1.2vswr. Yes it has temperature controlled tracking. Did a little testing with. Worked well, but when it was put on a friends spectrum analyzer had an oscillation. Redid a few things, but haven’t had a chance to recheck. One day I’ll get back to it.
 
Yes the HG2879 is very fragile. Broken many of the tabs just lifting the legs to check device. Don’t forget when using HG devices they have to be matched or they will not play well. Overdrive and overvolting will kill them quickly. Once the device tests down to about 6 or below, they tend to oscillate and won’t cut off. Meaning scrap bin. Seen a few mobiles when this happens, they will sit there and draw current all the time until power disconnected. Now the HG2879C is looking like a better option. They take more drive. The gain is lower but more suited to 11m operators.
 
From what I understand the only place to purchase somewhat reliable hg transistors is RF parts.
And when Crusher says "matched" he means matched on a tester not lot/date matched.
