Adjusting SWR with amp

different power readings from different radios will change it very slightly (the SWR), if the antenna is grounded well the match should stay fairly the same with other radios of the basic same caliber . When you put your amp in line and check the SWR with it on high it should read slightly higher , no more then 1.5 and you should be OK. Lets say you have a 1.1 match and it goes up to 1.3 to 5 , I'd say you were OK , if it goes up past 2 , I'd say you had a problem , as I said , could be ground concerning the antenna ? or it could even be circuitry in the amplifier that has lost it's values in parts that help keep the SWR down in the first place. They have antenna analizers at shops that can be put on your system that help to ween out any problem you might have. IM sure others will have ideas for you on this. Good luck to you.
How do you adjust the amp? Simple question

OLJEFF,

you responded to a year old thread, and then five minutes later implied that you couldn't get a straight answer here.

maybe give some details?

we want to help but there are just too many variables to give you any solid advice.

you may be totally sure it's the amp that's the problem, but we need to answer a few questions to be sure of that.

so, please give us some specifics.
what kind of vehicle?
what kind of antenna?
what model of radio? and what is the deadkey set to?
what model of amp?
how and where is the antenna mounted?
how and where are you measuring the SWR?

if you just make us guess, you're going to end up answering all of these questions eventually anyway.
help us help you.

PROBLEM: HIGH SWR'S BETWEEN RADIO AND AMP WHILE THE AMP IS ON?
CAUSE : MISMATCH IN THE INPUT NETWORK!
CURE: OUT OF VALUE PARTS? PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH THE WRONG VALUE? BAD CONNECTIONS IN THE
INPUT STAGES?
MY GUESS: INPROPER VALUES IN THE INPUT STAGE, A GOOD PLACE TO START> CHANGE AND/OR TEST THE VALUES OF CAPS ON THE INPUT TRANSFORMERS. NO NEED TO GET CRAZY BUT WHEN WORKING ON THESE ISSUES YOU DO NEED A SELECTION CAPS IN THE 20 TO 1500 pf range and should be 500 vdc rated. ALSO CHECK THE INPUT TRANSFORMER WINDINGS WANNA BE TECHS OFTEN REWIND THESE WITH MORE WINDINGS BELIEVING THIS WILL INCREASE POWER WHEN JUST THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE.

THE ABOVE IS A SUMMARY OF MOST LIKELY PROBLEMS.
