i just saw my neighbor in the back yard with a flash light... and sure enough as soon as they turned that noisy ass pump back on my receive noise went way up from s1 to s5 is there anything I can do to filter it out, or is there anything I can install on it to make it quite I do hold a general class license. The damn thing is loud in real life too. How would y’all go about this... I’m not scared to ask them about it, but I need a good game plan.

For me it is the new solar panels goin in near my home. What a racket those things make if they have cheap filtering systems. Anyway I get you desire to jump the fence and smash it. The noise we suffer with in and near our homes these days has been making going out and doing HF work in the country more popular lately.

Yes the motor/ pump is creating rf noise, I do not know anything about swimming pools other than that even if I was a multi billionaire i would not want one in my backyard

I know what you mean. My wife inherited some money from a real close friend of hers that had been murdered. My wife took the money and used it to install a pool. The pool was to remind her of her friend. I tried to talk her out of it but that didn't fly with my wife. I became the pool boy. Clean and maintain the pool and fix any problems. That pool is so much dmmn work.

I hear yeah man if it was up to me I would be living on a dirt road where the next neighbor is a mile away, but trying to convince your wife to live way out in the country is another matter altogether. I want to live so far out that it’s scary at nite because your hear coyotes and bigfoots howling lol,and the dirt roads wash out when it rains, and when the power goes out they don’t get to you for two weeks cause there’s not enough customers lol.

... edit...is there anything I can install on it to make it quite I do hold a general class license.....

Do not ever,... never!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, make any "repairs" to your neighbors equipment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just tell them to have it repaired and to not operate it until it is.

As an Amateur licensee, you have certain protections under the law and are protected from harmful , willful interference from an "incidental radiator"..

How does one actually put this into practice.... they will instantly think your a weirdo when you come knocking on the door as mr radio rf spectrom police... I think there has to be a way to go about this using a bit of diplomacy.... but I think that, it is good advice, to not also mess with there equipment.

I did a little more research, and it seems to be common knowledge that variable speed pool pumps create rfi, apparently the fcc has fined people over incidental radiators. The noise is not that bad until I get above channel 20. With the pump turned off I have about a s2 noise level all across pretty much every band. With there pump on it depends on the band. But on 11meters my noise floor goes up a solid 3 s units from about channel 20 all the up to the beginning of the phone portion of the 10 meter band.

Wow I know this is an old post however that's my darn problem. The bloody variable pool pump I recently installed, runs 12 hours a day, is probably the source of all my noise. Thought it was my radio, plugged in another radio. same noise level. Crap cant throw away the 1200 $ pump. Wife would kill me and burn my radios.. Thanks guys, That solved my mystery............MM

I guess the short answer is don’t have a swimming pool or live near anybody that does.

Atleast you own the pump and can switch it off when ever you want.

I’m just totally at the mercy of the people who live directly behind me. I think the idea that I could somehow get the fcc to do something about it is unrealistic. Maybe I could try and raise my antenna another 10ft.
