Very nice base station radios for sure. I found owner's manual online. Can't remember where I got it from. I will upload here.
I do need to change the meter lights, and have a few other questions about stuff! I will start another thread in the mod forum.

Great base if everything works properly. Check all modes to make sure everything works. Hopefully it hasnt been modified too much. Expect to see a replaced power supply as that's pretty typical for the 2980/2990/2995 bases.
Im sure someone here can tell you exactly what to look for under the top and bottom covers. Nomadradio comes to mind.

I emailed the seller, got pictures of the outside but nothing inside, he said it
had been modified for full freq coverage but he did not know who had done
the mod. He also said he had never had the cover off and only used the radio
on 10 meters. He seemed reluctant to send pics of the inside.

Well, im always skeptical of any sale that doesnt or wont show the inside. Im sure he hasnt a clue who did the freq mod but thats nothing really. I can also understand if hes never pulled the covers and not wanting to. I would go look at it and show him cash but request to see under the hood.
I was surprised to see a torodol power transformer in this radio. Is this original
equipment or has the transformer been replaced?
Looks like Q39 is still in place, some research indicates that gets removed when
super tuning the radio. I am setting up a time to look at the radio, are there other
things I should look for?

My 2980 transformer does not look like that. My board is not the same as yours either.
My board is E106527 SRF-C 94V-0. From what I have found so far, it's like a 3600 board. Mine has TR32 for the limiter instead of Q39. Anybody know anything aobut E106527 SRF-C 94V-0 board?
I opened it up for the first time today, so I could go in, and adjust the echo. No idea how I am going to do that because there is a shielded board right in front of the two screws I need to remove to get to the pots on the echo board...at least that's where I think they are.
Going to take some pictures.
Most folks add 2 variable knobs to adjust the echo. Looking at the back they mount them in the upper left corner of the back. This vid might help.
