Wife ran out of gas in my Jeep. I wasn't at home, so I stopped at Dollar General and bought two 2 gallons gas cans. When I got to the Jeep, I'll be damned if I couldn't get that safety thingy unlocked. It was dark, cold and windy. Holding flashlight in my mouth.

I tried and tried, but failed. Had to take nozzles off and slosh what I could in the filler neck. I'd like to shove those nozzles up the inventors....

Absolutely outrageous junky cans. I have four 5 gallon cans at home. They all have proper nozzles.

And I thought all Jeeps came equipped with a Jerry Can.

I gave up using those spouts. All my cans have half a tater screwed on 'em after I threw the stupid spout away. Large mouth funnels work better.

While in Idaho on a Plato while it was raining Snow and Ice, I was very low on gas. Using two 5 gallon gas cans it took way to long to fuel up the truck, Bruno the wonder dog didn't like it either as I had to close the drivers door to keep the cold off him. After fighting those Communist gas cans I bought a gas can spout kit from Trailer Supply, and added a steel valve stem for a vent on the gas cans no more Federal Regulated stupid gas can design, that has to be more unsafe taking too much time to gas up.

Jay in the Great Mojave Desert.... "Next gas 150 miles"

I put an “EZ pour” spot and a vent on all my new cans. A small one for 2 stoke stuff and a large one for everything else.

Between gas, diesel, and mixed fuels...I have so many it’s a bit expensive, but absolutely necessary.

Just-rite metal cans are ok, also, and required on some job sites.

The company that made the normal cans was run out of business due to a lawsuit that they never recovered from. Seems that people who poured gasoline on a fire directly from the can did not have any warning not to do it. And of course it did not end well for them. This is why we have the stupid spouts that you have to use two hands to operate. (So now your whole body is next to the can when you pour it on the fire instead of one arm. Go figure. Not that I would ever pour gas on a fire out of the can, but you can't fix stupid, the idiots keep getting what they get.)

Tractor Supply and Rural King sell spout kits to convert the new can to the old spout. The kit comes with a vent to pop open so the can doesn't glug.

The old Blitz cans with the rigid spout were decent for plastic cans. I never pass one up when I see it...and replacement yellow caps are available on Amazon. All you need then is a vent.

I still have several of the older style cans. To be honest I have not bought any gas cans in MANY years so I don't really know if we have those infernal types here or not. Probably do. I wonder if you could drill a hole where the vent used to be and install a valve stem. Cap it off with a regular valve stem cap. Just not sure how well the rubber would stand up to the fuel over time but it would be easy to replace.
