Has anyone used one of the w9ac d104 preamps?
I listened to a comparison YouTube video, and was extremely impressed with the sound of a tug9 w9ac's preamp installed mic. The difference between the w9ac preamp installed, and a stock d104 was night and day. I think the comparison was made using an HF transceiver, but assume the preamp modification would sound similar on a d104 being used on a CB radio.
I looked on eBay, but none were available.
An old eBay add showed up during a Google search, but no new listings.
I did a little research, and found that w9ac produced three different d104 boards (preamps.)
Are they still available?
Apparently w9ac has built quite a few ham related items (add-ons.)
One item winning a qrz award. Might the d104 w9ac preamp boards be available somewhere besides eBay? If I recall the old eBay add advertised them for under $30. 73

Has anyone used one?

well, in a sense, you have!

the circuit i put in your D104 is pretty much the exact same circuit as is used by W9AC (who BTW has an AMAZING QRZ page!).

his version doesn't have a volume control, and the output filter is just a bit different, but in essence they are the same circuit, a FET transformer.

here is a link to the version i retrofitted into your mic:

here is a link to W9AC's QRZ page (scroll just over half way down to get to the D104 project): https://www.qrz.com/db/W9AC

i cannot say for sure that they sound different, but my guess would be that they sound similar.
hope all is well with you and the family these days.

OOPS EDIT: sorry, i should have scrolled further down W9AC's page, he has different versions that i cannot comment on as i haven't heard them.
can you tell which one was for sale on ebay?

Thanks loosecannon. I originally thought if the mod you did on my silver eagle was the same (or similar) as the w9ac board. I guess you answered my question. Thanks. 73
