I need to run more coax, both mobile and base. Found a source for Tram 8x-B coax, pretty decent price. Anyone use this, know if it is worth it?

I know for base that LMR is better, but a 500' spool of coax for under $150 is tempting.

I once used tramflex and it did well for short mobile runs but never considered it on a base. I bought a spool of TAC (True American Cable) RG8X for mobile and jumpers. I'd never heard of tac, but turns out to be decent cable and genuinely made in the good o'l USA. Still would only use mobile

It’s is good for mobile use. For base use, well, you can use it but it will be exposed to the elements
( rain, UV rays, snow, etc.) and in a couple of years, it will get contaminated inside ( will get oxidized, green color oxidation ) , therefore, not suitable for base use for the long run . It will get brittle as well.

It can solve you while you get good quality coax. But since you are going to buy a 500 feet roll, maybe you are willing to take your antenna down, change the coax, put the antenna up , etc regularly, it is up to you. I wouldn’t. Too old for that hassle.

A good choice between LMR and Tram is the DXE-8X which has Type-II jacket ( non contaminating and UV resistant) DX-Engineering. It is cheap, 38 cents per foot. Go for it.

Another older thread but, I'd get the DX Engineering low loss RG8X any day over the Tram.
Just my opinion.
