Neat flea market find today

Tinkered with it some more yesterday and found what I think is a minor failure. With the power off, the meter needle is all the way to the right. When powered on, it goes all the way to the left ( zero ). Last night I heard a cat from Puerto Rico on AM-16 that was just blowing it up with RX power, and the meter never moved. He was loud and speaking to someone in Birmingham AL. So I guess the meter is not functioning properly.

With my inexpensive Radio Shack frequency counter I found the frequency to be off by .001 on all channels. So instead of 27.075, it was 27.074.

Today I whipped up a drop cord dipole and hung it vertical. I am happy to announce that I made a local contact with the flea market radio. He reported I was clear with just a little static. With the dipole hooked up it was showing 5.5 watts output (confirmed on two meters). Was receiving a lot more chatter today too. The radio's meter still didn't work though, lol.

Not bad for $10 I guess.

i never pay attention to meters,do you know if they are accurate? My old president meter quit back in 90s n everthing else works fine, then the meter in my galaxy 99v quit so i dont have a clue whats signal strength is. But they come in loud or weak if i hear em its fine.
Sounds like your flea market radio is ok,ps spray it for fleas
