They do a great job.....but won't compete with the longer one. Seems to me your antenna was an update of the Racer 27 that Avanti produced or at least I think that was the name of it. The second mobile antenna I ever owned was that because the first one burnt up. Never had any trouble with the Avanti. Afterwards I found the Hippo antennas and used them exclusively. Now that I think about it the Moonraker version of the Hippo did not have the sectioned whip. I've still got a coil or two off of a Hippo and Moonraker laying around here somewhere. Guess I need to find a mount for it and put it back to use.

wow!!! i know this is an old thread but i just picked up one exactly as in the picture,i didnt know if it was a moonraker since i also have the 6 foot moonraker,my four foot moonraker doesnt have the sticker that sais moonraker but it does say AVANTI on the top,the 6 foot one does have the sticker,i've had the 6 foot one for well over ten years and has been in storage for about 7,this is by far one of the best antennas i've had and wouldnt sell it for nothing, this antennas are now very expensive

The AV 325 was $29.95. per the add above.
What cost $29. 95 in 1970 would cost $177.30 in 2013
per web inflation calculator.

Avanti Av261 and Av241 are not the same in performance, both are excellent antennas and are what Sirio ml145/hp3000 and hp 4000 are basically clones off.

That calculator looks interesting. Wonder what my many new boxed Hy Gain CLR2'S , 418 beta matched .25 gp's and 533 CB3 yagi along with my Astroplane bnib are worth today :) ?
