ICOM IC-705 LATEST

The price finally came out for it in Canada along with price increases for most of the other Icom radios. $1450 plus taxes for that radio is not really putting it on top of my list.

See....

They need to make that able to snap onto an RF deck in a mobile or base. Drive up to yer destination, unsnap it, slap in an HT battery and yack.

Mobile is one thing, but for me, I think it's rediculous taking this thing out in the boonies. It's to damn expensive and fragile. Seriously, it's just like I said about the Elecraft. It's to fancy for trail use. I imagine most owners buy them, but only fantacize about taking it out in the mud and dirt. They'd cry and puke if it got scratched or dropped it. Yes! I'd take it to field day, but it would sit on a nice table under cover from the elements. For trail use, I'd want a traditional QRP rig, not something that looks like it was detached from a $5000 base radio.

I do like this rig. I'd like it better if it was part of a modular system.

Doesn't matter what I think anyways. I'm to old to prance along a trail.

$1,600 + shipping from UK.

Custom casing is a long established business. Conventions, music shows, etc all use cases designed to protect electronics both during and after use.

A DIY Go Box is the search term. Some very nice examples.

“Portable” and “Mobile” might be the same equipment. But casing needs change.

I’ve posted before about TAC COMM
Carriers. That’s “mobile”.

For “portable” (out in some weather) that Tactical Radio Carrier needs to fit into an over-case.

It’s not the Radio so much as it’s the gear found necessary (associated) to run the rig. Batteries, solar, etc.

It’s going to be several cases.

No, no ones going down the trail unless they rig a bicycle trailer. Which makes more sense. I ain’t humpin’ 7.62 either.

Junior over there can pedal that combo.
