Thanks. 14’ is pushing it. Why I keep the Pete antenna on a QD.

My pickup, well, good to know I’ll be close. I think mines lower than yours, but that don’t matter greatly.

I think the A99 will outperform your tram. Also you have made reference to enjoying skip but I dont think you have a ssb radio.. (correct me if I'm wrong). This would open up a whole new world of possibilities if this is your thing. Might be something to consider..

I agree with @Blackcat630.

Something else to consider, as you mentioned buying an amp, is that you have a powerful radio. It’s going to take some good planning to find amp that pairs well with it.

Just look at all the threads with folks trying to run a 200w radio into a 300w amp...lol.

I’ve come to tell the story of beginners Radio this way. It’s not directed (exactly) at the OP:

1). CB, the start

2). 11-Meter, the goal

One might look at it thus: SSB is a tougher critter to stalk.

One might tell himself that Sideband on a CB, fer chrissakes, is more trouble than its worth.

But if one someday desires to operate on other bands the effort to optimize CB-SSB is on point as the start.

From installations mobile and stationary, what applies to one applies to the others where best performance is desired.

Differences in gear (and expense) aside, where Radio is desired as a tool to be used with family, friends & neighbors, Citizens Band is an opened door.

The planning to get it right is in making the same plan more inclusive. And that’s not really all that much more.

Not every step needs to be performed, but that future inclusions don’t necessitate starting over

Success in chasing 11-Meter is proof of concept (where 11-Meter is understood to be VG performance AM + LSB/USB).

The above isn’t true in a perfect sense. It’s offered as template. It’s a choice to make SSB the NEXT step.

It’s not quite “real” as an either/or. It’s making a division in one’s mind regarding possibility.

If nothing else; the acquisition of tools and skill in using them takes away a secondary stumbling block where licensed operation becomes possible.

(CB System on steroids conveys the wrong idea, but it’s close: “ . . what’s this chicken-band radio doing at this competent-appearing station? Hell, there’s a tower outside”. )

None of this is original to me. But it is my pleasure to make the recommendation.

Your ‘63 Plymouth Fury coupe will be just fine with all the steering, handling and safety upgrades necessary to a 10-sec car while running a Slant-Six.

The 600-HP Max Wedge is still some rods, bearings and a questionable crankshaft sitting atop a period block & heads.
