20200531_111103.jpg Finally getting around to this project. I need some trace opinions. Some glue took the coating off some traces. They are all good and make contact. I can jump them, further on down the road there will be no problem. Or I can clear over them and let them be. The second will look better but who knows what will happen for the long term.

I’m all for looks, but mainly on the external features that you see every day. I’ve done a few different techniques to solve these damaged print issues. Depending on the radio’s value, a few were done in haste with a simple insulated jumper wire. Others were done in a more meticulous process to make the repair “almost” indiscernible. Regarding print repair, the truth is after few years I can’t remember what I did on whatever radio, unless for some reason I removed the covers again. The only consistent thing I’ve done on a highly valued radio is to make sure all the glue is removed, plus and all the electrolytic caps are changed. By whatever method that can be achieved for a bright copper appearance, I usually apply a thin layer of solder along its entire length. If I feel additional strength is needed, I also solder a fine wire on top of the print. If the print is beyond repair, the damaged portion is removed and a small wire is placed along the same path. The leftover wire clipping you get from a cap replacement works for me. Fingernail polish works well for holding the repair down.

I’ve seen videos of people tediously gluing down new copper foil strips. Unless their talking about repairing or making tuned strip lines, IMO that method is only for radios that have plexiglass covers, and are placed vertically on a rotating turnstile with mirrors all around. Please stay behind the guard rope and let that restorer receive his trophy! Selfies and autographs with him will be done afterwards...

Finished this part. My first time using solder mask. Put it on a bit heavy thinking better protection. Had to let the uv of the sun dry it. Solder mask showed up before the uv light. Had to buy a fiberglass pencil my fiberglass tools were just a bit to larg.
