New Microphone Driver Extreme DX656

I have the Ranger sra195, and astatic mics. Looked and can’t find the palomar sl41 mic. Very interested if anyone has any comments on this one. Ranger Mic is awesome but I feel myself talking much louder into it than I should have to

The 636L I think is a good microphone they sound good pretty durable. You can buy switches and will have to replace the Mic. cord within a year because it will stretch out to about 10 foot LOL. But still a choice of most people.

I just bought the 636 astatic with the chrome metal covered cord. I like it. Ive bought nearly every mic available in the past couple months. 636, RD104, 104M6B, SRA198, RK56 so one more won't hurt. Lol

Had not tried the microphone. I had picked up a Drivers Extreme 32 inch Silver Bullet antenna and mounting stud from Bob's. Easy to tune. Kinda tunes like a Firestick, except tuning hardware and mounting stainless steel. 'Ran it for a couple months. I put the Firestik 3 footer back on. The Silver Bullet seems to be quieter with less static, but I did not seem to get faint signals. So its a trade off,I put the Firestik back on. Like I heard a few women say the extra 4 inchs makes a difference on the receiving end.

This mic is vrey nice! Definitely feels better than the rest with some real weight and larger size. I like the Cycolac ABS plastic. It's good stuff.
If is sounds as good as it feels and looks this is a keeper. Oh and it has a real rubber lip guard like rk56 of years past. Hope it's not an all bass mic. Personally I like the highs. With the frequency response I'm thinking that it will have a good balance

Since reading your original post I had to take a look and see it for myself. Looks good. Looking forward to your report on it.

I originally wrote up an unfavorable review, but I took it down because of the rework a customer wanted done to the radio - took out their Hi-Fi mod and worked another way to mod and tune the radio to fit that mic.
  • Why I took it down was because my work to rewire this mic was simple straightforward and easy like any other handset, but the "quality" of audio in the radio it was going into - you'll need to be aware of others mods that people have done to their radios - this mic like the AT-6666 profile, only works well if it's more stack than Wi-Fi / Hi-Fi'ed so my opinion would skew results.
  • Switch? Pretty much a regular plunger you'd find in stock mic and since it's "Noise cancelling" that is left open to interpretation - so be ready to hear "Colorized" sound from the effects.
  • May need to open the handsets' cradle and open up the passthru and rework remove the windscreen mess and pop-filter.
The Mic to me, sounds bassy, No-resonance though, but if put thru a radio reworked to handle the wider audio not Hi-Fi injection - the mic can sound pretty good - just be ready to "Tweak" the results to fit the customers desire for audio drive.

Had to return the radio back to stock then "add in" snubbed in capacitance to develop the tone and EQ profile so the mic is more "Stock" than "hi fi" so if you want a good tone, apply the "Goldfinger mods" and the like (extra farad caps to widen tonal passband) and you'll be fine.
