i have one of these thats a million years old but mint in the box. i want to change the filter caps in the bottom but im not certain what values they are. they are not written on the old caps. if anyone can help i would appreciate it. i dont know a thing about this but i figured since i have it id get it going. if anyone has any info on it that would be cool also......thanks

I always wanted one of those. a local friend had one with his cobra 2000 when he hit the switch he sounded about the same but would talk to Fla. Texas or Cal. from NJ I think they put out olny a bout 100 Watts.(y)(y):DI want one.

if its new old stock i would just run it .more than likely it will be fine .
jb12 only does 30 watts rms or about 70 peak .
6bq5 tube probably .

the bigger jb150 with the 8417 does 150 peak and about 70 rms .i have had them both .

not new but mint in the box. i bought a bunch of gear many years ago and took out what i wanted and the rest sat for all this time. i just want to change them for safety purposes. im pretty certain the 2 big ones are 47uf and 450 volts and the smaller is a 100uf 150v. thats what i gather from the schematic..let me ask you this. is it worth it to even bother. im not a big watts guy and 70 watts would be fine. im currently running a kris boomer but its big. this is the size of a small toaster and would sit nicely on my 2000...i also read in the manual not to run it in standby...i run my boomer in standby all the time..why is this different and does it really boost receive. has a 7189a tube in it also...im really liking the size and vintage look of it but i really want to know if its even worth it to bother. i have read some info on the web that says they are great..

its a good little modulation booster .may not get you called in dx land as much as the boomer would .
it does not boost receive .
they are a great around town amp for the modulation boost they provide .
may not make the neighbors happy, they can bleed adjacent channels .

if it has a stby switch then its ok to use it that way .

you certainly will not make friends with that thing.
and i would not leave any vintage gear run unatended standby or not.
knew someone who left an old d&a amp on and the transformer flamed out while he was away.about $5000 in smoke damage!even if it does no damage it still stinks.i opened up a cnc box yesterday with a roasted transformer.
i can still smell it when i came in this morning and its in the basement.

with those replaced i have another question. I need to replace a carbon comp resistor. what i need is the value. brown black black silver yellow or vice versa. also does it need to be carbon comp or could i use a different type..

I have never understood the paranoia that so many seem to have when it comes to electrolytic capacitors. They do not "DRY OUT" unless leakage is showing on the circuit board. They do not contain any liquid other than mineral oil. If you power it up and it works "Don't sweat your capacitors."
I have electronic equipment way older than I am that works perfectly and the only thing on it changed was the power cord.
I'm not saying the caps will not fail eventually. They do fail on start up some times.(Infantile failures.)
Sometimes they are damaged by their service environment. A voltage surge can exceed the maximum voltage rating.
