Question on the ANYTONE 6666

I want to run a POWER mic (D-104) on my new anytone 6666 can this work ? Some say the 6666 has a power Diode inside that will short the radio out.
 

I was going to git a adapter 4 pin to 6 .I just can,t find any for the 6666. I,d like to go that way so i can use the same mic on my RCI.
 
Yeah Lester did a video this weekend and was saying something about that I didn't follow what he was saying but that's nothing new there

If that's all you're going to have done, you should be fine. But then too, the Anytones'; use a filter designed for their microphone elements. So it may or may not work for you.
  • Best way to put this is...If you decide to use a power mike, like a D104Minuteman or even the EC2018 (Why - 6666 has echo) the radio powers it's element thru the front mic jack - so it uses power from the radio for it's functions and Electret in the handset.
  • Don't try to send or utilize any power from the radio unless you can buffer the output pin from the 6666 so it won't "draw down" or cause erratic operation. The Radio can utilize the Handset in a Tri-state function. It can recognize RX mode, Toggle and TX modes thru one pin without having to use Speaker Ground Return - but it requires Ground and the Power supply - but in a high-impedance state to access these functions. It utilizes one pin as the Voltage Regulated Data Port and processes this similar to many of the Bluetooth Handsets that use TriState - 8 Volt, 5 Volt - Ground (even 3.3V)
  • If you haven't already, get the programming cable for it. At least when it does it's blank stare back at you, you may be able to make it recover by "reloading" - do a back up of this software so you can revert back to OEM.

The "power Diode" is a misnomer, you can put a power mike on it, but if you attempt to modify the radio by defeating limiters, you may or may not get away with it.

The "Power diode" others call it - is actually is a self monitor feature on the radio - it's part of it's Power On Self Test.

There are several steps and stages it has to verify power goes to specific areas and it receives data from others. If it can't sense these, it can "disable" itself using MUTE and LOCK features to prevent unwanted operation.

You can defeat these, but you run the risk of destroying the Microcode they use to boot during either Hard_Reset or a power off - power on - Self Test - if that fails, you get something similar to Windows ...

Only It's called the "Blank Screen OF Death" the Microcode or controllers handling it - just quit working - went corrupt.

It writes back data to it's registers upon power down, if you try to "upset the apple cart" the write back can fail. Hence your corrupt code and now dead radio.

So be careful when doing mods, the radio can do a lot, but it doesn't tolerate mistakes - it can be fatal.

Well, watching the VId he calls out the ERF2030's as his goto of choice for the upgraded wattage values.

Mentions something too about the 30 days before he can put up the link for his users to his website to get more of these ERF's.

So to be honest, the meters get punished for the effort he tries to show in the vid, but if they are true to form, hes' showing all the energy going out, including spurries and harmonics - so your wattage may vary...:whistle:
 
Locally sold here as export radio.
Output Power: 15W AM, FM 45W, 60W SSB (PEP)
Original values, without changing the C's in the PA for that higher output you can wait none of them fail.
These exports are not known to se any parts with much reserve.
So, doubling the output with original parts willl stress them a lot.
Reason he is also replacing the AM pass transistor for a beefier one.
If the swr gets a bit wonky expect the transistors to go quickly.

About the ERF 2030, Application Note AN-2030-1a
The ERF-2030 is a 25 watt* transistor - therefore, it is not just a replacement part, but also an UPGRADE to the old Mitsubishi parts. Example: EKL Components has a documented modification for turning a Galaxy 33 into a 50 watt radio using the 3pcs of the ERF-2030 and 2 companion parts.

I had already put a 6-pin plug on my Turner, wired for a Magnum 1. I plugged it in to the AT-6666 and it was correct.
Crank the gain at the mic, turn the mic gain in the radio down. Works great.
