Quick Texas Star ?

Word on the street is dei transistors are vswr sensitive. Keep it lower than 1.3. No "volting" also. Keep it cool and it should last a long time.
I just finished drilling my dx1600 lid and installing a fan kit. All repainted and back together. I too have some wiring to clean up lol.

There in lies the problem. I refer to my thread in Antennas. I'm attempting to tune antenna to a higher freq since thats where it will live. But, I cant throw an am carrier cuz my radio is too hot.

So how do the "Steel" tubes stack up? Are they as good as the real thing, or better than nothing?

I don't know about that 3000 yet. The amp isn't finished. I did order a window unit AC for the garage so I can ge back to business.

I have had good luck with the Chinese 3cx1500 (8877) tubes and the Chicom 3-500z. I've never had an Eimac 8877 to compare to. Even the no name Chinese tubes have good gain and are linear.

From what I've read the Chinese 8877 tends to draw more quiescent current than an Eimac if you put it in the same amp. Throw a couple more diodes in series with the existing bias and it's all good. It wouldn't even be an issue for low duty cycle modes like SSB.

Agreed but find a good used one as it seems ts is using a Chinese Toshiba 2879 look alike transistors lately. Word on the street is make sure your vswr is no more than 1.3. That goes for hg or dei units. Do not volt them.
Do you mean 3:1 or 1.3:1? Nothing wrong with 1.3:1 with a well-designed amplifier. "1.3" isn't a ratio.

Kind of like telling your mechanic you have 4.55 gears in the rear end. He knows what mean. Even the guy behind the counter at the auto parts store gets it if he's been there a few weeks. Only the accountant that likes to "turn wrenches" on the weekends and is a volunteer moderator on the automotive forum will make a big deal about it.

Curious...

Would you still need AC for the Winter season?
Now don't laugh guys seriously - the winter air and it's moisture content may accelerate issues we normally don't think about...Sealed systems for dust and humidity retention kinda' conditioning.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have year round climate control. Right now I would just like to be able to work on radio stuff without sweat dripping into it. All of my larger projects get put on hold during the summer. Ill take the smaller stuff inside but this ones heavy.20191205_152051.jpg 20200517_182617.jpg

Nice work - and yeah, you don't want sweat acting as an accelerant for rust and corrosion.

Looks like a Sweet project - Big plans soon?

The wd40 is holding up well. I'm not going to paint it until it's done. Then I can rip it all apart and paint. The ps is mostly done. Just need to finish the rf deck and metering. Garage built CB junk with a different tank coil.
